What amp for the tone in my head.

Oh man...Marc kicked ass. I think "Inside Out" is a better sound personally...but to each his own.

No worries, I like that tone as well. This was the first one that came to mind.

I will look into a modded Marshall, or will one of the Egnater seminar heads come close ? How
about a Soldano HR50 ? I have a 4x12 cab, and just want a head that will deliver as close to this tone
as possible.

And yes, I am in total agreement about the babes of the 1980s. No other era can match the beauty, allure,
sensuality, and pure sluttiness of those girls.

The Egnater stuff is a little darker than that IMO
Soldano for sure will get close
But Hot rod Marshall is the tone
I believe the Ada was designed by
A Marshall modder Martin golub
He designed it to be a hot rod plexi type of
Tone
I could be wrong on Martin but it was a amp mod

Ah Crap!!! I cranked the hell outta XYZ as a younger player. I love their first commercial release. I realize I'm not answering the OP, however, HAD to chime in when I saw it was an XYZ video. I think the lead tone is really good, but the rhythm does have that 80's shredder tone I've come to cringe at. Keep in mind this is a mixed & mastered recording. Having cranked ADA's into heads and amps for years, I know it'd get this tone in a heartbeat. Wish I never sold my ADA MP-1.

Yeah, I had a MP-1 that I used back in the day as well when I was into rack stuff. My tastes run to simpler rigs now.

I will look into some of the amps you guys suggested, and hunt for a JCM800 as well.

Here's my quick take at that tone using an '83 2204 with no gain mods (does have an effects loop added).

Stacked a Boss SD-1 and Boss EQ up front for that midrange.

SM57/Greenback straight into pc, no post production.

Thanks I think Steve's Cherry Bomb clip sound's fantastic as well! Lots of great amps on the market today can get into that territory.

It's been awhile since I fired up the JCM 800 nothing like an XYZ thread to dust it off.

Seriously bro, you are a monster player IMO. If I needed a "better" Marshall sound, I would totally get an amp from you. As to the OP, I think any old single channel Marshall with an OD will get you close enough that your ability should be able to get you the rest of the way there. Having said that, buy a Henning!

Edited to give props to Chubtone. My reading skills are the crap right now lol! Yeah man a Cherry Bomb Rod channel paired with a higher gain/more modern thing going on would be the shizznit!
