I had a Marshall C5, but I sold it off because my Friedman modded superlead gets as nice of sound at low volume as it does at high.

I'm interested in this topic as well as I'm looking for a small, inexpensive low watt tube head myself for my living room. I've tried everything Egnater's got but they just don't do it for me. I can't find a HT-5 or JCA 20 at any of the three GC's in Houston so my search continues.

Used to be either my Epiphone Valve Jr. or Marshall Class 5 until I got my JCA22H. Still love jamming along to my Fender G-DEC 30 as well.

splawn nitro with loop volume control

This  especially if it is a KT88 model. The extra low end helps fill it out when playing at low volumes. I really miss mine.

Any of the Peters amps. I haven't heard any other higher wattage amps pull this off better than them. With the way the controls work, it's easy to dial in a cranked tone at really low volumes. It's like having a power scaling control split into 6 different controls you can tweak separately and tailor just how much of each you want. And they of course completely rip when you turn them up, too. :)

Honestly i love my mark V for low volume playing, sounds great on 10 watt mode. I also have a line 6 spider IV 15 watter that doesnt sound half bad and its what i practice with the most these days.

Vox Valvetronix plus
Yup....thats what I have as well.
I like the Peavey Vyper combos though and want to snag one of them as well.

+1 on the vyper, love mine. only problem is the footswitch is sold seperately, and ive owned the vyper now for over 2 years and still havent gotten around to ordering one

A Marshall Haze 15 watt head into a Mesa 212 Recto cab has been my amp of choice for late night practicing for the last couple of months :)
