I will agree that if you dial this amp in visually to look the same as when you dial in a Marshall, it may sound different than you would expect. I have a recording project that I am doing. I have Splawn tracks on the left or the right. They're next to or opposed in stereo from Marshall JCM800's, vintage Super Leads and my Mojave Peacemaker. Some tracks have an Orange Tiny Terror on them too. The Splawn in no way sounds "weird" next to Marshalls. As a matter of fact, if I didn't label the tracks, I would forget what I used sometimes. I dial in the Splawn to sound right. The same thing I do with my Marshalls. I use RADICALY different knob positioning to get there.

Some complain of the "stiffness" in the Quick Rod when it comes to soloing. I know what they are talking about. But I come from playing plexi's where you are fighting AGAINST the amp to solo. You ever try and solo on a JCM800 with no boost? It's freaking terrible. But boost a JCM800 or crank and attenuate and even boost a Super Lead and you have a different animal. I boost my Quick Rod too. It is not "stiff" at all with a boost. It kills.
rod...stiff...??? quit it! :gethim:

Well I can't speak for everyone but what I mean by weird mids is that a regular marshall has a a specific midrnage cut I think but Im not 100% sure but I think its in the 650 regio... or somewhere in that region. When I hear and play the splawns the midrange is different to my ears. It doesn't have the same sound to my ears and that's what I mean.

Ralph

I agree, I've never heard a mid frequency quite like the QR. I can definitely see how some wouldn't dig it.

didn't you already do a clip like that a while back? it was something like a 'vintage marshall shootout' or something like that...like three or four various marshalls and the QR thrown in there..

I can't tell you how dead-on this post is... :D

the prevailing thought I had when listening to this clip was

"it's nice to hear a driven tube amp, played like vlad was enjoying the experience"

it also reminds me of the fact that the eggie tol mids are a little challenging in the crunch department,

but there is an inherent plumpness to a tube amp I respond to instantly.

You can put the mid knob on 0 and the frequency will still be there, I owned one for two years and used it live as well. No amount of knob tweaking will change that if someone doesn't dig that frequency imo.
