Yet another Axe-fx Thread .....

If you can, set up the rig going out2 (1/4") to your tube power and cabs. While simultaneously going out1 to your recording rig/studio monitors. You'll want to place your cab models at the end of your patch chain, and put the Loop block right below the cab block. Split off right there. That way you won't need to disable cabs globally.

I will do that once my VHT is here. Using my Diezel 2x12" for myself and @ gigs and rehearsals the XLR outs for the others.

There are just two things annoying:
a) this way I cannot use my pre into th AF anymore (without adding a looper and a splitter)
b) I need another AxeFX - one for home use and one for the band - I'm too old to move 30 kilo rigs around

The development of Axe-PC has me thinking a bit. If I'm just using it at home, it would probably make more sense for me to have that than the full Axe-Fx. But for you, you could have Axe-PC at home and use Axe-Fx on the gig.

Color me VERY skeptical about a software-only version of the Axe-FX. Unless it comes with an interface...which it might....

I'd bet much of the greatness about the Axe-Fx is in the input circuitry.

Sounds cool. I will add that whatever the secret sauce is, I still preferred using the internal pedals in the unit rather than my real ones in front of the Axe-Fx. In no way did my real pedals sound and react the same compared to if they were in front of a real amp. However, with all the options inside the unit, you really don't need to use external pedals anyway, I just had to try it myself.

My fuzz pedal worked great in front, my vibe did not. I wish the AFX had more vintage pedal sims. I might get an M13 for that purpose.

Hey fellas, I dont have much to add to what Ralphie said, he pretty much summed it up. Needless to say, Im a believer. We met up with Tom who got us set up and took us through the rudiments of the unit and within maybe 30min of going through stuff, Ralphie and I were noodling around with creating patches.

One of the very first things that I noticed was how well the AxeFx reacted to volume knob manipulation; it was pretty much like a conventional amp with all the subtle nuances. After a few minutes of Ralphie tweaking and me playing, he dialed in a sound that immeadiately hit me as being eerily similar in feel and tone to the MkIv sound that we love so much. Whats Crazy about it is that we were getting this through a V30 cab, speakers that neither one of like so much....

We both knew right then and there that there was serious potential for the AxeFx. As Ralphie said, Its an absolutely perfect live solution on so many fronts. I just put together a really nice rack/pedalboard rig and I hate to say it but I could have saved myself a bit of time and money if I had just gone with the AxeFx from the start...

A big thanks to Tom and Cliff for the Demo unit and Tom, thanks for taking the time to go over all of this with us, It was great to see you again.. I really wish that you guys had it set up at the NY amp show in the Power Amp/Cab config, you would have saved me some $$$ and assload of time and work. Better late than never I guess...

Believe it Kids, the AxeFx is the genuine article. Im still debating what to do with my current rig but I may very well off it in favor of the AxeFx, maybe not. Either way, Im getting one and calling it a day...

Glad you dig it Kage. Like I told you on the phone the other day, it's really amazing what can be done with this thing. I'm learning a freaking ACDC solo now because of a JCM 800 patch I just created.

That M13 does indeed look cool but it's only instrument level or else I would have given it a spin. I'd like to try this Axe-PC when it's available, hopefully it will run on the Mac as an AU plug-in.

BTW, after a lot of tweaking I got a strat/plexi tone I love out of Revalver....

Thanks for the reviews guys. I'm wanting to try one out sometime. I have two main gripes with most of these things. One, they don't react like I'm used to with the volume knob. I don't expect this one too either, but that's not uncommon most amps don't react the way I'm used to but I can deal with it. 2nd, When it comes to reprogramming things, and setting up midi stuff, I'm borderline retarded, and I think most of the time I'm way over the border. Gives me hope that you guys say it's easy to dial in.

I PREFER the way the Axe-Fx responds to guitar volume, to almost any tube amp I've used. To me, it's like you get the knob-response of a cranked plexi-style amp, with almost ANY model you dial up. So many high-gain amps, don't react like that AT ALL....

YMMV.

*edit/recant* Just checked it with my stoopid-gain rhythm channel, and, it acted like a stoopid-gain channel on a stoopid-gain amp... which is to be expected.

I can tell you that it (knob response on the Axe-FX) whips the ASS of any other modeler I've touched. And I've owned more than my share of them.

Hmmmm, Im wondering why that would happen? I thought that Vibe clip of yours was pretty damn good but I didnt get to hear if it had THE THROB, you know what Im talking about...
