Like people who have never played guitar before? I honestly think that's a piece of the pie but not the biggest one - because the "never played a guitar before" people are buying 100$ bullets at walmart, or their dads/brothers/uncles busted up old guitar, because it's just sitting around. There are a lot of those people, sure, but think about it, the biggest piece of the revenue pie has to be the beginners who have been playing for a year or two and are buying their first "Real" guitar - think squier classic vibes, mim strats, schecter diamond series - because they are paying 3-6 times as much money for that second guitar.

Still beginners though, @DanTravis62 . That's all I meant. The $500-600 guitars are still Squiers or PRS Se models, which although not bad, are specifically aimed at that segment of the market. And all the big companies like Gibson, PRS and ESP probably make a bigger chunk of their money from Epiphone, SE and Ltd than they do with their regular range.

The last guy who's advice is needed. This kilt-wearing wanna be biker should spend more time picking the scrambled egg out of his beard.

I don't know, I like Zakk Wylde. His work with Ozzy will always be judged favourably by me. He's a bit of an oddball, but his chops are solid and his lead playing is top notch even in his advanced age. Perhaps he should have died young, rather than be judged now that he's older;.

Oh guaranteed they do, I'm just saying it's not people's "first guitar" where they have never played before - the money is the "second guitar" or "first real guitar" parts of the market - and the number bear that out. That's where the highest sales always are

The feeling is mutual...

Who the fuck is Zakk Wylde.jpg

I did not read all the posts but active pups nulify the wood
With passive pups whelp I'm preachin to the choir. It's not like I'm on the phone with Spicoli at guitar center :p

I can’t imagine a player whose opinion on tone would matter less to me than Zakk Wylde. I mean, I know Henson is there as some low hanging fruit but he doesn’t have the decades of sub par tone under his belt like Wylde does.
Guy has not changed his setup in over 35 years. I used to wonder many of those years ago if Zakk would change it up, ditch the EMG’s and just rip some dynamic tones with no chorus in sight but he just…kept…..going, with the same shit, over and over again. Even for fucking Pantera…..Pantera! Yeah when I hear Pantera in my head I hear a soft, detuned Les Paul with EMG’s into a Marshall and some chorus. fuck.
I actually like the guy. Always interviews as a good dude, but Christ, as a guitar player I feel he’s one of the saddest wastes of ability since Yngwie.

While this video is both fascinating and entertaining, it still doesn't explain why you can walk into a GC, play several of the same exact model of guitar and they will all sound a little bit different. That's the whole fun of choosing "the one"...the one that sound just right and puts a grin on your face.
