i would jsut like to know what pickups everyone likes best for metal.. i play lots of metalcore, deathcore type stuff and also play lots of TOOL, older deftones.. i know EMG 81 and 85. blackouts, bare knuckle.. but i would like to know some other great pickups for metal as well.. it will be going in a PRS se singlecut, will be playing threw a 6505 head cab loaded with WGS speakers 2 reaper 30 and 2 et65's.. after buying the PRS se today well my budget for pickups went down a little.. prob max amount is $110 bucks jsut to keep that in mind.. and also it will be going in bridge.. thanks..

If you're big on Tool, Adam Jones uses Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge on all of his Les Paul Customs. Great pickup!

okay so Seymour duncans look like my price range at this time.. what about GFS pickups are these jsut as good.. I noticed they are super cheap.. can these compete with seymour duncans?? if so which GFS pickups are high out and good for lots of chugging...

I'm really digging my OITS (One In The Stink) brand pickups. Their Penetrators were made specifically for ass metal.

has anyone ever used the dragonfire active pickup set??? if so how close are they to EMG 81 and 85???????

Really depends too on the amp being used. I found with my Diezel heads, a lower output pup was better than a high output pup, YMMV. That being said, I loaded a guitar of mine up with Miracle Mans, apparently the BKP equivalent to EMGs, only passive instead of active. They're a bit off the hook. Way saturated and thick. I find they sound best through my Mak4 and 20thA rather than my Diezel. Again, it's all a matter of preference.

Adam Jones' pups have already been mentioned, but his set up has pixie dust all over it too - amps, mods, FX, etc. Steph from Deftones has gone 100% digital with the Axe-II now, so his legacy of stacked Marshalls is no more. So it goes.

But for the numerous axes I have and play, the ESP NT-II loaded with BKP PK's is SICK!! My ESP FR-II loaded with MM's is almost too much. And those are my main 'heavy' players, albeit my triple pup Black Beauty loaded with Emeralds nails more of the Tool-like tones than any of the above.

Dimarzio Super 3 or X2N. D-Activators will get you the "active" sound as well, without the price tag and the batteries.

Cheers,

People seem to either love or hate Invaders. I personally like them a lot. The Duncan Distortion looks badass too. BKP Aftermaths, EMG, Blackouts, etc.

i jsut said screw it and i got what i know a EMG 81.. got the 81 for 50 brand new on ebay.. so im going to get a dragonfire 85 to but in the neck i think,, unless i run across a cheap 85.. but well see.. thanks for everyone info.. was a big help..
