I'm sending an amp out for some mods. I should be able to just put it in a roadcase and put the Fed Ex label right on the case right? I don't need to box it or anything do I??

Should I use tape or anything extra on the case?

From what I understand, you are better of mailing an amp in a cardboard box with bubble wrap around the amp. I'm positive they would toss that roadcase around.

I had a Mark III combo shipped to me in a roadcase and that was it. It had some bubble wrap on the inside to keep it snug and wire twisted on the latch so it wouldn't come loose. I don't know if they could even "toss" it around if they wanted to it weighs like 100 lbs. Anyway it came and worked fine. :dunno: Personally I don't ship anything that isn't packed good enough to survive a 3-5 ft fall. It's almost guaranteed to be dropped from a foot or 2.

i'd roadcase it and put the road case in bubble wrap in a box

I ship in a road case all the time. The best form of transportation. Just make sure you have a good seal around the lid. I tape up the latches too. Slap the label right on. I do this from the US to overseas. Shipping is a little more.

This is hands down the best way to ship. That's the whole purpose of a case right? I put plastic tie wraps on the latches to keep them from opening too.

Ah, good tip on using the zip ties on the latches. I'll use some bubble wrap inside as well, and some tape around the sides of the case.

Thanks guys! It's headed to Friedman for some love!!

Put the case in a box ... the voice of reason has spoken.

I find that when I ship or have been shipped something in a ATA road case. It is treated very well by the staff and drivers. They absolutely love the handles, casters, feet or anything that makes their life easier. Your amp in a double lined cardboard box will get treated like anything else. Even to the average worker;they could be thinking they will get fired if they fuck up what is in the "special" case. That's extra security built into human nature.

Peace
Love

Yes... I guess I'm wrong. I've been told by several people not too. Yes it defies logic, but heavy things tend to get handled with less care.

It depends entirely on the quality of the case; some of them are pretty cheap.

Like Josh said.. make sure it's not the 1/8" cheap mdf type material.. it's cheap and doesnt hold form in normal transit. Remove all tubes and bubble wrap them all and place inside the amp.. it will help protect and preserve the tube sockets. Bubble wrap and add any foam to amp inside the case so she is snug as can be. Use secure tape and tape the hell outta the roadcase to seal in the goods.. Bare in mind the case may show some wear after her journey but amp should be good. Also, the amp will most likely be sitting in a warehouse overnite at some point... sometimes 2 nites if holiday or weekend. FYI. Cheers

The roadcase is the safest way for the amp for sure, granted it's a high quality one with a good amount of foam inside. A good case will protect the amp no matter how it's handled. Only reason I wouldn't do it is the weight/cost. If you box it, double-boxing with a LOT of packing material is the only way.

I don't give a shit what the case looks like - not worried about damage to it as long as it doesn't affect its functionality.

I have done this a couple times and boxed the road case.

I received a Mk V from Saudi to Md in a Road Case with no problems. The inside had a foot switch, some cables and bubble wrapped. Luv Duct tape :D

I don't really see the need for boxing a roadcase. Are you guys doing this to keep the case clean or unscuffed?

Don't box it. Sort of defeats the purpose of using road cases, dun it?
