Woah! That's loud. I would love to hear one that loud miked up properly. I have a feeling that the iPhone isn't doing you justice.

It's really loud, but not as painful as I had feared. Maybe it's too much fun to notice. But even a few minutes at this kind of volume and my ears are ringing for hours afterwards. Definitely not a good practice unless you use some type of hearing protection or are miking it and listening/playing in another room.

Thanks for doing that. How did you do it? I know I've done it before, but it was trial and error and I ran out of ideas last night.
NP man... you're YT coding should look like this for it to embed...[.youtube]Gb6O1z6kLOQ[/youtube] note, i added a .period in front of [.youtube] to keep the line from embedding again

btw, both you guys amps sound great...i do love a cranked marshall, just no better to me ;)

I really am in disbelief at how good these amps sound with their volumes up high. I can see why the amps are legendary but also why there's a mystic about them. Before things like the Power Station, mere mortals really would have a hard time finding ways to actually use the amps like this. And there are minor component tweaks that seem to make a difference between "meh" and "wow!" Failed caps. Poor repairs. Ill-executed mods. Just a mess-up from the factory. Now with the internet, it just took a few days of reading to figure out what the specs should be and why.

Anyone who really likes Marshall tones, it's worth it to try to find a healthy Super Lead and something like a Power Station to give it a go. Could save a ton of money in the long run if you're chasing a certain Marshall tone. The turrent boards are super easy to work on, and you can have a lot of fun tinkering with the component values to dial it in.

Just one example: I've read some folks who really think that certain amps from '72 or so were just magical compared to others. Well, in '72 they were transitioning from using a bypass cap over V2a to instead reducing the amount of negative feedback. It's not crazy to think that some amps in '72 were made with both that bypass cap and the reduced negative feedback. Having done both to this '73 I have, I can tell you that the amp is a fire-breather when you have both. Just one or the other sounds great (and is a bit less berserk), but for someone wanting a totally gained-out Marshall 1959, maybe this is that magic combo.
