I have a funny Wizard story, well not funny just cool. About 2 years ago I had this buddy start telling me I had to check out Wizard amps, that the tech for AC/DC made them and his guitarist (the guy in (Atlanta Rhythm Section) used them and that they ruled. I remember I always thought I couldn't play an amp named Wizard, just seemed weird. Whatever, I'm weird. So a month or so later I was at NAMM, I was in the middle of the show and someone was talking my ear off and I had to pee so bad. When they finally stopped and turned and started running to the bathroom. I passed a booth with an enclosed iso chamber and I heard the most insane guitar sound coming out of it, I turned and saw the booth was Wizard. So after the bathroom I went to the booth and played a Les Paul through a Modern Classic for about a half hour. I was completely blown away by the tone, feel and power. It just sounded right to me. Still haven't pulled the trigger on one, always feeling that I have that ballpark somewhat covered by my 71 Friedman and the 4k would be better spent somewhere else. But after playing Todd's MC it's still stuck in my head. Great guitar amp with some cool pedigree. The dude that works on Angus and Malcom's sound. Nuff said...

where can i try wizard amps in southern ontario ?

You'll have to take a drive to Cornwall Ontario where they're built. There is a store there called Strung Out Guitars owned by my partner in crime at all the amp shows, Art O'Rielly. He'll set you up to try one.

You also riffed a bit on my V if memory serves me.

diezel or wizard or hughes& kittner or PWE or soldano, etc.? who has played these and what did you end up keeping? and or getting rid of ?
want a hard rock tone, not into nu-metal. no need for 1,000 watts , don't tour anymore. But good tone is mandatory. IF these have a good clean tone is a plus.

+1 I have owned more Wizards than just about anyone and they have all been overbuilt and bombproof. Not sure what happened to yours but that was not my experience.

+1
I still have my Modern Classic 80 and Metal 100 heads that I purchased back in 1998, they are both running strong and sounding as good as ever, and I wasn't the original owner of either.

If you want to pick up the best Modern Classic I've played to date, you should get this used one.

He's located in Southern Ontario.

 I hate to say it, but you can ask a ton of questions,
and listen to clips over and over. I have done these very things.
But in the end if you can't get to where one of these amps are, whatever brand it is,
you want to try. Then you will have to buy on blind faith.
Recommendations can be helpful, but what you will like will be up to you when,
or once you play a particular amp. We have all bought blindly from time to time,
when it comes to the level of gear you are asking about.
Because a regular music store or average guy playing guitar don't have access or play this high quality stuff. Good luck on your choice.
I don't think you will go wrong with any of the choices you have ask about.
It will end up being the point of if you are happy with the amp once you get it and spend some time with it. Last note......Steve is about the most qualified guy here when it comes to Wizard... For along time Hell....he was Wizard............

If you want to talk Wizards, get in touch with either thegame or his friend Jay and Mike Fortin...they've had Wizards longer than anyone I know. Other guys that can tell you a thing or two would be Ampaddict, Squarehead, Joolzriff, Superunknown, Sswanson etc....

I finally bought my first Wizard (Metal) in '01 and had Rick do some mods on it in '04....then he built me a Modern Classic in '05 with some custom tweaks. Pricey but great sounding....played about every weekend for 6-7 years with them. Still have the Modern. It needs new tubes bad! For killer consistent hardrock tone, these are cool amps. They record fantastic. Its not going to have a ton of features or as much gain like H+K, Diezel or PWE...featurewise more on par with Soldano (pretty different sounding). Tone is probably closer to the PWE.

I'd like to have a Diezel VH4 someday...aside from the Modern all my stuff is vintage.

You are Still MR.Wizard... but you got your own amp going so that is what I meant with that last comment.

Pstar,
Greazy Geo named a good portion of the guys that have run Wizards at one time, as far as guys from this forum.
But here is one important thing to keep in mind if you are gonna buy a new modern classic.
The last say 4 or so moderns were built with revisions. And there were mods and revisions.
The one I have is one of them. Super unknown has one, Steve has one, and I know Northern on this forum is another. Anyway, if you are buying new then these are going to be almost exactly what you would end up with for your money. There are differences in the additions added to the last few. For the better as I have had multiple Wizards .
Rik would be more than happy to talk with you in some capacity if you e-mail him. Look on the Wizard websitye and you will find the e-mail address. So if you are buying used then just getting opinions from any of the guys listed would suffice. But fi you have not played the newest versions with all the mods and all the revisions, then you don't know what you are missing. I love mine. Been giving thoughts to getting some more Wizards.

This might seem like a shitty thing to say but since i have a Diezel,i'd go Wizard, they have a tone that i wanna eat. To me,Diezel's are to polished sounding, you don't have to be a great guitarist to sound great using a Diezel amp.
I've only played through Wizard once, and my next amp WILL be a Wizard or a Friedman.
And in no way do i mean to sound disrespectful toward Diezel, they are perfect amps IMO.Just not for me.

i had a wizard metal 100w...incredible amp....its in the top 2 ive ever owned gigged w/.....i ran it through a greenback 4x12 OMG! reminded me of a old marshall bred w/ a hiwatt power section EXACTLY what i had been wanting and it was all of it! problem i personally had w/ it was that i liked it when it was Loud and the clean side of it i preferred cranked a bit(no master on clean side unless modded)........SO, the bars and clubs i ended up playing got smaller after i bought the Wizard and the SLO was working better for me at lower volumes in these clubs as it has the feel i need at the lower volume.........Both amps are top shelf my friend, built beautifully and beyond heavy duty.....
if god came down and said "have what you want for your arena tours" i'd take both a Wizard and a SLO out w/ me.
p.s i dont play NuMetal, just classic rock and old school metal.....i'm an old school cat!
buy used and jump in and test em out....thats what i had to do- and give em a few months trial
good luck

gonna order all the 4 deizels, and if any if them don't jive with me,than to the evilbay recycling galaxy
