It should be taken on faith when the institutions are proven trustworthy. The US government lost the little credibility it had left in 1913, so nothing they've done or stated after that point should be trusted or believed. Further, in the modern era, in collusion with other entities like google, search results for many of these topics are parsed in a way that it has made it more difficult to find anything that doesn't reinforce their claims. Suppressing opposing ideas is not the mark of the free country they tell us we live in.

No, by and large they haven't. There is one true church, the rest are schismatics, heretics, or breakaways from other schismatic or heretical churches.

Written by Matthew, a foundational saint in the orthodox church. Gathered in who's name? Who's version of Christ? There are plenty of "christians" out there I'm not locking hands with in prayer, believe that. I think it would be good to consider that anyone can quote a verse here or there and make it mean any number of things. Either you trust in the unbroken chain of succession within orthodoxy and 2000 years of history and canon law, or you trust in schismatics, heretics, and self appointed teachers.

You suggested two random people who confess christ and get together automatically makes jesus present among them? Jehovah's witnesses? Mormons? A new ager who confesses the maitreya christ? Who? Confess which christ? There are many false christs. Even the demons confess Christ in the book of Mark.

Dude, I understand it's coming off like I'm fucking with you. I'm really not. I'm just trying to understand why you think your beliefs are the only true ones. And maybe point out that all people who have religious beliefs probably think theirs is the only truth. It's not our place to judge, ( you know, unless your truth involves suicide vests, killing jews and other infidels, etc.) The bible says anyone who believes Christ is the son of god, who died for your sins and is baptized in his name shall be saved. It doesn't say anything about canon law or the unbroken succession of orthodoxy. Is it your position that anyone who disagrees with your ideology is not going to live in eternity in the kingdom of god ?

Every church has a statement of faith, every denomination offers theological arguments to support their stance. Orthodoxy has 2000 years of canon law, and ecumencial councils, in order to eliminate this kind of confusion every schismatic and heretical sect is suffers from.
I wasn't getting that at all. You asked a legitimate question.
That isn't my position. I don't have a position, the church does. The church's position is that those who are not orthodox will be treated as outside the orthodox church. Since neither I, nor any of the church fathers are in charge of the judgement, we do not claim to know how God will deal with someone who is a follower of Christ, but does so outside of orthodoxy. Having been on both sides of the coin I can tell you that a christian outside of orthodoxy misses out on the most important, and meaningful parts of the faith, namely the sacraments. It's not a judgement against them but rather my own personal experience.

This implies each denomination worships a different or fake Jesus. I understand it more as each (Christian) denomination worships the same Jesus, just in different ways.
I think that's sorta what @Floyd Eye was getting at. The minor details of ceremony and whatnot aren't as important, and it's accepting Jesus that matters.

Gotta say I concur with both of you guys.
Those poor millions who've been saved via missionaries on remote islands would have no hope if they had to attend EO or any other non-local denomination churches in order to "fully qualify".
IMHO the overarching message of the Bible is "Who so ever believes in Him...". There is no additional qualifier.
