Telecaster

I like mine. It's a 2015 American Special with Texas Special pickups. I guess it's tobacco burst. I really wanted binding, but it has none. I bought it used for $700 from some guy on the ghey page sometime in 2015. I really wanted it to look like Clapton's Hyde Park Tele, you know, minus the strat ( Brownie) neck.

Anyway I really like the pickups and it's a damn fine playing and sounding guitar.

Good luck with your search.

Dude, make a partscaster.

There is literally no reason to buy a bolt-on in that price range if you have ANY guitar setup skills, unless its something where the setup IS the product like a suhr or tyler
^^This...to try and find a Tele or a Strat with all my favorite specs has never happened. I always had to settle for something not quite to my liking. A Partscaster has been a way for me to go when wanting one. I can get all my favorite specs and parts at about the price of a Standard and way less than a Custom build. May not be of the same value of a real Fender, but I'm not in it to make money. Not to mention that I enjoy chasing down all the parts and building them. Both of these have Callaham parts, T-Tune Bridges and Nash Lollar Pickups

Japan Fenders are really nice, US standards are hit or miss in my experience.

If you can find one, a used Nash in the best bang for your buck I think. Not everyone loves their finishes though.

I’ve been looking at Tele’s and Strats and I’m kind of digging the American Pro II neck shape. They have weird color choices though. As much as I I like a blackguard blonde Tele, really want to get a cool solid color I like but not into the Mercury/silver burst finishes and the Miami blue is hideous. Mystic green looked pretty decent in person.

I found a Japanese made one that I like the looks of.
Dbl bound.
Dark RW board
Texas specials
Brass barrel bridge
Sharp red color

Should be here Tuesday.

If I really like this I may build one later…
For the price the one I bought is pretty close to everything I’d want. And didn’t cost an arm and leg.

Always good to have a Tele in the stable.
Currently have a Fender CS with P90s that's on par with Anderson/Suhr quality. Love it. The roasted flamed maple neck with rosewood fretboard is superb. The chambered, 1-piece mahogany body is super light, with all the tone. Sustains for days. Whoever wound the pups was having an exceptionally great day. Wish I could buy him a beer.

Had a Nash that I foolishly traded towards an R8. Played and sounded great, super versatile with Lollar pups, with a tasty relic job. Modern day Nashes aren't the same.

I have 2 Classic Vibe HSS Squier Strats, used to have a J Mascis Jazzmaster, all stupid good for the $. They setup and play great. While you can tell they're made to a cheaper price point than their USA counterparts, they are better quality than Epiphones and PRS SEs I've worked on. I'd definitely check out a CV Tele if I were in the market for the sound, for not much $.

if you had to choose between putting 1 P90 in either the neck or bridge, which position would you prefer?

The Nash I had came with a Lollar Special T. I can't stand single coils in the bridge pup position. They're usually too weak and thin sounding for what I play. This one was fantastic, highly recommended. FAT, hot enough, still had that single coil feel and dynamics.
It def brought the rock, without being too ice picky:

Man, that's a hard choice. Depends on the guitar I guess.
In my SG, definitely neck, with HB in the bridge.
In a Tele, bridge, for the fatter hotter sounds, single coil in neck.
One pickup guitar, bridge for sure. Phil X seems to do just fine with only a bridge P90.

my friend had one very similar to that and it was very comfortable feeling and sounded right.
the neck on the cheapo indonesian fender tele i bought new last year feels great too. i just played a few new mexis in the $900s and americans in the $1500s yesterday and although those were lighter in weight across the board, honestly my neck feels better than those.

i think i’m going to keep it on the cleaner-low gain twangy rhythm side of the tele spectrum and let my Tyler and PRS do the heavy lifting.
i have a fralin lipstick in the neck. lollar bridge singles sound like a good fit. petty/adams americana breakup and cleans like this:

It’s a fender thing. Regardless of country of origin you have to wade through about 40 of them to find one that feels right. And it could be an American Deluxe or a Squier CV.

100% agree, I started hunting for the Lollar Nash pickups after owning a Nash Tele. Those Lollar Nash winds are awesome and that bridge pickup is slightly overwound and fat sounding. Got lucky that I was able to find a couple of sets for sale and both my Tele builds have them.

I have tried to get along with teles and no luck. I have bought and sold 4 of them.

For a simple guitar they are finicky imho.

I would try some in your local shops. You might be surprised by a more affordable version.

Wait untill you go down the swap pickups and bridge rabbit-hole.......fun stuff.

I've had no luck either. They sound great when others try them. Me? No luck...

This. I had a few teles that were just ok. I ended up with a 50's CV. Changed the pickups to Bootstrap Pretzels (because cheap guitar, cheap pickups?) and compensated brass barrel saddles. It's not even close. Easily the best tele I've ever had.

arrived last night.
Fender Japan made
2006 TL62b-75.
Beautiful fiddle. Really good shape for a 20 yr old fiddle. Sounds incredible. Plays really well.
Not stoked with the vintage fret wires but I’ll survive.
Honeymoon phase in effect for sure. But I dig it.

Crazy for Tele pups! Has the chime, and the beef.
