If you just want to experiment for $249 this is one of the best that i own.
Plays well, sounds great. I even gig it.

From here you can decide how much up the ladder you want to go. The $700 Mexican player series are also great .

I’ve got an Xotic XTC. Stainless frets, really good pickups, extremely light body. Recommend checking them out if anybody is in the market for a higher end build. The neck they put on mine is straight porn.

The Squier teles are really great. Somehow, they seem to be the best model they do IMO.

The weak spot are the tuners and switch.

The tuners on a upper level tele maybe you turn a 1/8th to bring it up to pitch. This you go well beyond that to maybe 3/4.

The switch feels cheap and not smooth.

Not putting any money into it. When the switch goes I'll put a good one in

I don't like Teles. I never liked the body style as a kid when I started learning the guitar and that remained true into adulthood as well. A few years ago, I tested my theory of dislike for Teles and bought a few, sold em quickly as well. I just don’t love them.

But...I've said that every guitarist needs at least one Strat, the same can be said about Teles, so without further adieu, I want to show you my Tele. Dan Wolf Guitars out of Colorado. I just got this the other day and it's cool.

my next move will be swapping out the pots, switch, and saddles/string tree to either graph techs or brass. their is a cheap metallic “ting” versus deeper “twang” i wanna hear when playing acoustically.

also started sanding the back of the neck, fretboard edges, arm rest bevel and a belly cut to knock off some weight and polywhatever bowling ball finish to make it my be-hiotch. i will do what i want to make this cheap indo fender work for me!

I cannot get over just how good this guitar is, makes my American Professional feel like a $200 Oscar Schmitt.

The Lollar Special T is perhaps the best pickup I have ever played.

You realize that more turns = good for tuners? Unless I am misunderstanding what you are saying.

The switch is cheap, all of the electronics are, thats not what I base a good guitar off of because they are easy to swap and even $2000+ guitars sometimes use cheap pots, caps, etc.

you reminded me, i’m going to install the tbx tone pot i had in my tyler into my tele.
the one regret i had when doing the tyler factory upgrades was that they couldn’t keep the tone control in due to space.

Well let's say im 2 cents flat when i tune up.

My upper level guitars is just a nudge on the tuner. 1/8 to maybe 1/4 turn

The squier i have to go almost 3/4 if not more to bring it up to pitch.

But they do hold fine when playing. I can get 3 sets in and almost not touch them

Again, if you are stating that the tuner takes more turns to move, that is gear ratio and the more turns the better.
