So, why does that amp cost 50k? I get it's incredibly rare, blah blah, but what magic does it have to be worth 50k?

It turns into a hooker and blow at midnight.

It is a Mesa wanna be. So Mesa's should go up in price.

If it does this every night, I think I better start pinching pennies.

I could hear it in his voice.

"Go tighten the screws in the back of the cabinet, bitch."

I don't think this vid did it justice. Had nothing to do with Andy's playing, he's great. I think it's just the camera quality that didn't do it for me. Still sounded decent, just not as great as I know it could sound. Must have been awesome being in that room though!

not gonna lie, it sounds pretty freakin amazing... just what I'd imagine a Dumble to sound like. But you can get that tone for <$2000 IMO!

posting this before andy gets to? he already did yesterday, but you know that. you responded to his post.

You answered your own question...its incredibly rare. Supply and demand drive the market. If you are trying to get at "why is the demand there?", I would say its driven by the fact that several players noted for having great tone used them, thereby driving up the initial demand for players. At some point, when prices are escalating quickly, speculators turn their attention to the item. Now you have non-players/hacks/hobbiests with disposable income who enter the picture and drive prices up far above and beyond the functional value of the amp. The vast majority of these folks view it as an investment and not a tool...the exception being a very small number of pro musicians with means who will actually use the item on tour/in the studio (even these folks are rare these days). It's much the same for any investment grade item such as vintage guitars, classic cars, old guns, antique ________ (fill in the blank), and so on.

This video was shot last year at Blackbird Studio's in Nashville while Down From Up was recording a EP. The Dumble in the video.. Mark Tremonti now owns ;) But, what does Mark not own now   Also, Wolfgang Van Halen has been touring with Mark playing bass on his solo record tour..if you didn't know :D

Tone is great, but then I've never actually heard Andy sound sour through any amp.

You know, maybe when Howard started building his amps, there weren't many out there or a lot of variety or a lot of "quality" high-grade component/spec amps to choose from. Maybe this is why he was so paranoid and "all over" his "circuit" and having cats sign waivers about "warranting to never open the amp, or have it stolen(!!??)", and a lot of other self-created buzz that just heightened the amps' [assumed] uber superiority and mystique.

But times have changed. Quality amps abound. Great tone is easily had.

I'd like to see the dentists and dumble-kool-aid cats start gushing over a MIJ 15W combo that can be had for $199.00. Only then will I start to believe that armchair critics aren't simply correlating "price" with assumed "tone quality".

I liked these amps better before I saw the Henry Kaiser videos on youtube with Dumble

I don't care about the value of the amp. But can someone explain why this clip is "amazing"? I know Andy is a monster but why is this tone "amazing". To me, the Dumble thing is more IIC+ hype, times 10.

The amp is amazing because SRV played one. DUH! :D

I always kinda thought the fascination with Dumble was a perfect storm of really good tone + cult following of famous players who were considered to be tone aficionados + limited supply. I think they sound great...but not $50k great. Think of all the badass amps you could buy for $50k....
