Due to my wanting a larger boat yes I have been thinging of a massive gear clearance, even the Natas.

I would end up with one great rig and several guitars to keep me happy.

This is exactly how I feel. I am good with a versatile amp and a few guitars that feel and sound different (depending on my mood). Funny thing, that's where I am at right now.

Chad, one are one of the only guys I know that has looked for gear and found a great rig that fits you really well.

Thanks dude. This is due to the fact that I have a set budget for gear. I can afford more but it doesn't make sense when I have a wife and kids that deserve my attention and money as well (in addition to other interests in addition to my love for guitar). I felt that carefully picking/spec'ing my guitars was the only way I could make it happen. Here is a link I posted over at the TAG forums that kind of speaks to what you said about me (http://andersonforum.com/board/showthread.php?t=9247). I am totally satisfied with my guitars. I will say that I am grabbing one more amp (selling the Mark IV). I have been changing a lot as a player and I just don't play metal anymore. I try but when I hit my 40s something changed. I am a rock/hard rock guy. I am very excited about my next amp and think it compliments my guitars well. I can honestly say that I will feel set at that point. If I don't sell the Mark IV I will most likely just pack it for a while. Good to take a break for a while.

Hate to see you sell the Natas. Great amp but totally see where you are coming from. That would almost be one that I would pack up and forget I had just for the fact that it is such a limited piece. Boats are good too. I recently just picked up a new road bike for cycling.

I have been thinking about it alot lately. I think if i can set the cali free the rest will fall like dominoes.

I'm down to two heads, two cabs, two guitars, and a rack setup (minus the pre)...honestly don't even need all that, but it's an improvement

I have been thinking about moving all but 2 amps and that would be my herberts and also keeping 4 of the front loaded cabs and just moving everything else. including the friedman I just got.

Is there anyone else thinking about doing this?

I'd sell everything but keep your best Marshall and the Mesa Mark III.
That's what I did. 100 watt Einstein, Mark III a few guitars and a pedal board.

Marshall. Not that compressed thing. :D

Damn man, sorry to hear that... DIBS on your NATAS!!! PM'd.

Yep, but not for any negative or dramatic reasons.

I got a Mesa Mark III and a Parker Fly within the last 12 months. I'm not using much else, so I'm tempted to sell off the negelcted gear.

I had a rough spot a few yrs back and had to sell everything!!! I still cringe thinking of a few pieces that I can't just buy again. The plus side though is its fun to rebuild it all over again!!

If I could get over my massive OCD, I'd do a proper gear purge but, alas I am stuck rationalizing why I need EVERY piece of gear I own as I am getting ready to list anything for sale which usually puts the kabosh on a real sale attempt :(

This ^

I look at things and say to myself, I need this for that and that for this. If I want this tone, I need this amp/cab/guitar. Plus sentimental value.

For example, I really have a hard time thinking about selling my Mark IV. I don't use it now, however it was my main rig for so many years...just can't bring myself to let it go. It's been places with me.

Maybe just need to sell off my pre's and keep my amps. Hmmm...then the devil comes in and says, "what if you need those for recording or to build a killer rack?" Even though I mostly have done the amp/cab thing.

I suppose I should set up a killer rack and see if I like it. TheI can get rid of anything that doesn't get me "my" tones.

At least right now I am not gassing for anything, so maybe that's progress :D

I've got 1 guitar (Gibson Les Paul Custom) and 1 amp (EVH 50) right now and I'm totally happy! Some day I'll but another SLO and a vintage Marshal but for now my little rig rocks

I try and keep one amp for each day of the week and one for leap years and special occasions....

I guess i had better plan a roadtrip to your place before you clear out Greg!!

The gear compulsion is fed by annual bonuses, and I usually buy used and for a good price. I have a rock/metal rig and blues/country rock rig.

Being over 50, I still have not found the desire to move away from metal, I just have added new interests. Metal is just too fun to quit playing. And now the classic rock that seemed to disappear has resurfaced in modern country.

Nope, no gear purge. Probably will look for a good deal on something interesting from someone doing a gear purge :)

I don't have a ton of gear and I really dig what I have so I don't really think of selling anything anymore. I've got a Splawn QR, Mark IV, Bogner 4x12, Mesa 4x12, 2 Suhr Moderns, Ibanez 7321 and a Seagull acoustic. A bunch of pedals and I'm good.

There are times when I consider dumping everything but the Suhrs but it'd be such a hassle and I'd probably end up in the same place. Why lose the money? Plus, I love the gear I have. When I feel this way, I just plug in and play and actually try and get better.

I sold up until I ended up with 2 high end amps, 4 cabs and 4 guitars. I still need a flying v, an acoustic, and an amp modeler just for fun. Oh yeah, I need a Friedman BE100, a fortin modded Marshall, and a couple of old Marshall cabs. Then I'll be at the level where anything else is excess.....Except for that 68 plexi I need.

I play live, music is my hobby, I don't worry about how much i have. I purged out of my other hobbies to focus on music.

I don't have many to begin with, but I have thought about ditching amp and pedals, and just going to a modeler. I don't play out or anything anymore, so it seems to be a waste to have this stuff.

Not planning to do a gear purge with this economy, just not worth it.

I've never really had a huge collection like some around here, but I'm doing a mini-purge of all my possession, not only gear. I usually keep three amplifiers around and a handful of guitars, but now I'm limiting myself to one head, two 2x12s, and two guitars... found the head I'm going to keep around, but not the rest. I'm selling almost everything else I own. I don't want to own anything more than a guitar rig, small recording rack, and a duffle bag full of clothes. Anything else is getting the boot!

I do a massive purge every morning. It involves a brown sound.
