I had more BMX bikes than I can remember. PK Ripper, Hutch, Redline, DeCoster. I was sponsored by Hutch for awhile.
I always wanted a PK Ripper or a Hutch but they were out of my price range as a kid and my parents refused to buy any bikes other than a Murray ten speed as there were a couple roving gangs of BMX bike thieves. I had saved up all my lunch money and allowance for a year or so and bought a Diamond Back when I was ten -I didn't have it a week before one of those crews stole it from me, still pisses me off to this day but I was ten and these fuckers were in their late teens. First weekend I had my GT our garage was broken into but I kept that fucker in my bedroom.

I had my brand new Schwinn Scrambler stolen when I was 12, if my father had caught the bastard he wouldn't lived much longer.

When I was 13 my father left, and I started working. By 15 I was working full time and was able to fund my BMX addiction.

Miss those days for sure.

Don't know if this is true.

Is this really what MAGA VOTED FOR. The Armada cost the US taxper 10-18 Million dollars per day to maintain...........WTF!

Maintaining a significant U.S. naval presence off Venezuela costs
millions of dollars daily, with estimates ranging from $10 million to over $18 million per day, depending on the specific ships deployed, including high-operating-cost assets like aircraft carriers (around $6.5M/day) and destroyers (around $2M/day). This expense covers fuel, crew, maintenance, and munitions for operations aimed at counter-narcotics and pressure on the Maduro government, with costs quickly accumulating into hundreds of millions

Cost Breakdown (Examples)

  • Aircraft Carrier Strike Group: Roughly $6.5 million per day.
  • Arleigh Burke-class Destroyer (e.g., USS Jason Dunham Around $2 million per day.
  • Wasp-class Amphibious Assault Ship (e.g., USS Iwo Jima Between $1 million and $3 million per day.
Total Estimated Costs:

  • Some reports suggest the total daily operating cost for the naval force in the Caribbean (focused on the Venezuela region) is at least $18 million.
  • By late October 2025, this deployment had already cost over $600 million

Diamondback, I forgot about that one. Super fucking light. We used to hit this sewer catch inlet that was askew right on the side of a cross street at the bottom of a hill and do table tops over the hoods of the cars at the light. Those Hutches were pretty light too. I wanna say my last race bike was about 4 lbs on the frame.

Since the statute of limitations is about 45 years out of date, I will admit that my first good bikes came to me as a result of the rich kids over off Starling Airport Rd. being too stupid to bring them inside when they were done riding them. Soon enough I was sponsored by a local bike shop though and then went through a couple manufacturer sponsor deals and I never stole or paid for bikes or parts again.

Someone mentioned "Tuff Rims". When they came out everyone thought they were great. Unbreakable right ? I always thought they were just too heavy. Right across the highway from my house was a rock bluff, you know like from where they blasted and drilled out for the highway. It was about 15 foot high and I dropped off it on some kids bike who swore those rims were unbreakable. I assure you they were not. lol It laid me up for a week or so, but the bet was if I could break them I got the bike. That's how I got my second PK Ripper.

I still have my Hutch Pro Racer. Pre serial number. The whole bike needs restoration. My racing days are a great memory.
Mine too. By the time we were 15 or so my friends all started getting into motocross. I never could afford a motorcycle, but I would have loved to have had a YZ125 like all my buddies had.
When my wife was young she won a shit ton of money racing motocross. She was telling me about it all the time and her knowing and racing with Jeremy McGrath. I wasn't sure if she was full of shit until one day we were over at her parent's house and the phone rang. Her mom answered it and then told my wife it was for her. My wife said "Who's calling me here ?" Her mom said "Jeremy McGrath". It was the only number he had for her since they hadn't talked in a decade or so. So I guess she wasn't full of shit. Then later when her dad and I built a house across the street and he was living in it and nearing the end of his life he told me a story. Apparently my wife had won a shit ton of money, enough to pay her way through college. Well her dad found this bad ass '62 Chevy truck and spent her money on it and when it came time for her to go to college that money wasn't there. So my wife did the logical thing. She stole his truck and drove it into the Meramac River. :-)

I raced from about 1981/82 til about 1984 but was done racing by 1985 or so. It was huge where I lived and there were a few racetracks and the BMX bike to have were the Redline bikes or the PK Ripper aluminum frames. I rode a Mongoose chrome moly bike which was heavy compared to the Redlines but it was tough as hell and I never bent that frame no matter how bad I wrecked. My race number was 00.

In one race one of the rich kids with the best of everything Redlines wrecked in front of me and I rode over his Redline and I bent the shit out of his frame...................he was pissed.....shit happens.........don't wreck right in front of me....:dunno: that was the one plus to the heavier Mongoose frame.:2thumbsup::LOL:

I did alot of stupid shit on that bike and survived it all....................:dunno::doh:

Those are good memories guys, thanks for bringing them up!
