sweet, you just answered a question that came up when talking with JB today.....so you use a powered monitor as well as your THD and mic the THD? regular cab tones as well as sims?Bet it sounds killer.

Hmm....I wonder if an Axe-Fx would sound best through the power section of my Recto, XTC or Avenger (would have to add a loop).

Actually the monitor has just drum and bass in it. That said I am running the direct into the PA as well as the miked cab.

I love the fact that the axe-fx is so versatile... I've used mine with a tube power amp into a guitar cab. With a Tube amp in the fx loop (four cable method) into a guitar cab and with a QSC HPR122i. Also miked a cab with power amp at a gig, and used the direct outs to FOH too.

Sounded awesome with all setups in different ways.

heh..that's a dangerous game.

Running Jason_86_2454234523523452's AxeFx through the loop of my XTC and then hearing it on its own is what caused me to go down this path. Oh yeah, your XTC is his old one, the one he based his Ecstasy patch on ;)

Seriously though - if there was a way I could've kept mine and gotten the AxeFx / VHT setup I have now I would've kept the Ecstasy in a heartbeat.

You will find that each of those amps will place its stamp on the overall tone. We found that by switching the channels of the Ecstasy we were able to get different sounds, even though we were only using the power amp. This is because the power amp structure is changed from channel to channel.

I won't write off the Recto, but my money would be on the Bogner and the Soldano for the better tones, and ultimately a neuteral stand alone power amp for the best representation. Or into an FRFR...or into the front end of an amp...or direct to a mixing board....or a combination of all the above   :D

Being that it's a pretty versatile piece of gear, i don't think you're going to get a "best" result from any one amp. Probably for some tones one amp would work better and so on.

After playing those 3 amps though, for metal tones I'd go with the Recto everytime. That thing with a boost is a monster.

I think I have calmed down from my Axe GAS attack over the weekend. I might eventually go this route but I owe it to myself to try the Mark V first. If I love it (like the IV) it stays. I would like to try an Axe first. Wish I could!

Is there any way to totally dial out the processed "modeler" sound that it has?

Well I was just told you axefx guys will NEVER come close to a good dumble clone or Rubbin Ford tones from "another" site :D

Not even close

Awww...that's dissapointing :aww:

I'm so bummed. I could get one of those "suck" boxes that are out there and run it in the loop of the AxeFx, that might get me close   I'll record 72 versions of "Politician" and see if I can get close.

The $400 Vox ToneLab LE offers a Dumble OD 100 Special model, not having access to a real Dumble, not sure how close it is? ;) Maybe the folks on the other site can AB these and let us know?

the funny thing about my old vox valvetronix was that i thought the vox models kinda stunk and that line 6 made a better vox model, but some of the gain patches and dumble patches were pretty decent.
the effects in that thing were pretty grim though.

both korg/vox and line 6 really need to reaquaint themselves with what a real dynacomp compressor sounds like.
more elastic, less plastic.

I wonder if those schmoo's can wrap their head around the idea that a lot of great guitar players out there could give 2 shits about trying to sound like Robben Ford.

Points over to the toilet bowl...I think that counts for 3 shits!!! :) I want to sound like me!! Which is about the same as what's in the toilet bowl!

Same here, I have the ToneLab LE. I can get a good sound from the AC15 models, but the AC30 models sound like crap. The Marshall's aren't bad though, and I'm not into the modern high gain stuff so I've no idea what these are supposed to sound like. My Zoom G2's effects sound better than the ToneLab too.

A lot of great guitars out there don't need 20,000 amp simulations either.

c'mon Carl, you know you've got one at home too.

I'm not distracted by the 40 + amp sims in the box - but absolutely have taken advantage of the 4 -6 drive and clean patches that work perfect for me. I don't have the room anymore to keep that many amps around and this solves some major problems.
