Axe-FX Ultra + 7.04 firmware = The Shit.

If you are a tone freak who digs tweaking and needs a large variety of killer tones, get one.

Steve

P.S. - Dweezil Zappa's latest Eruption preset he posted at Axechange sounds EXACTLY like the VH I album with my old Kramer guitar w/Mojave pickup recorded direct.... Very nice use of the MBC to tweak it to the album and the plexi cab impulses make a HUGE difference... I also dig how he used the pitch shifter to downtune 1/2 step. You can use a guitar tuned standard with this presest and simply kick in the pitch shifter to get to E flat... nice... If you have an Ultra and enjoy VH I tone, I highly recommend it... I'm gonna do a VH I clip with it, but not Eruption... too many of those already...

Steve

Closer than your old PM??
Closer than any amp I've ever played in person and closer than any of the millions of clips I've heard of it from old Plexis, Metros, you name it. Spot on to the album version... It's just stupid...

Steve

Coming from an EVHologist like yourself that is really something! Wow....................

Well... Dweezil is quite the EVHologist himself - he outdid himself on this one. The final version he posted with the custom impulses is truly amazing to my ears...

Fwiw, I seriously considered getting one but would then need to get a switcher and floorboard to do what I'd I've got the G-system doing. Just wasn't gonna happen $$$ wise for now, but I've heard enough clips of these things by now to have it on my radar permanently. Every time I try and record song ideas with my PODxt I can't help but think how much better an axefx would be for home recording, lol. :D

I'm more than just a little confident the Cameron tones are a twist of a knob away based on the demo I had last night...easy deal

wow that's pretty awesome! i've really tried hard to NOT read anything about the axe-fx's mostly because i don't want to get the G.A.S. for one.... i think i'm screwed now

Digi - J FTW

It's almost too Cork Sniffy...I'm serious man, there's some mind boggling stuff lurking in that box. I would not have believed it, I had to see / hear / play it for myself - but that thing is legit.

I've owned both and it is night and day. The Axe-FX is completely inspiring to play through - I could never say that about my POD XT Pro, although I could muddle through it and get something respectable...

I don't mean to denigrate the POD XT. It is a useful tool. I just know that it sat in my rack not getting alot of use, while the Axe gets turned on daily... :inlove:

I know nothing of the Axe other than the posts I've read (never checked the website).

I saw the list of amps and saw an Ampeg SVT on there?

Does that mean I can plug my bass in there and have it sound like a bass?

I've avoided the gas successfully by not reading too much. But it sounds, from this thread, it might solve my multi-amp need... trying to emulate Adam Jones' tones with one "amp" would rock.

Yeah, I have no doubt about that really.

Several here have used the Ampeg model for DI bass on clips, sounded very good too.

Oh...

I meant to ask.

When changing patches/channels on the Axe is there any latency issues?

I had a ZenTera right when it came out and that was the reason its gone.

Even Jason said the first versions of the programs sucked...I'm glad that I got to hear this thing after it was getting up to its real potential.

I would like to know until what version Jason thought it sucked because I bought in again over the version 5 hype, wasn't impressed.
IMO early 5 was meh...things started hopping when the Cali 4x12 was added...maybe 5.07 or 5.2, don't remember.

And while my curiosity is piqued:

How quiet is it?

I've got a Diezel Herbert that has plenty of that high gain hiss. I'd love to have a rig that was as quiet as a mouse.

The real question is...........Can it do Krokus tones? :D

Nothing high gain will be quiet unless you gate it...end of story. That's what happens when you amplify the input signal a couple 1000000 times...the hiss goes up as well.

As for the Axe, it got a global gate, and a gate block you can use to side chain the input. In other words instead of sensing the threshold after everything it can before and then shut off accordingly, think Decimator Pro.

It's awesome I have a few tunes that are in Eb where it really needs the open strings and when I don't want to change guitars I have a bank of patches that copy my main bank just pitchshifted down a half step.
