I was backing up my VH collection and I can fit all of the DLR material on just 3 CD's.
A VH greatest hits collection that was a double disc would fit every song if you leave off the covers they didn't write.
Wimpy ass bandits....you call 32 minutes an album?!!!
Every album had 22 minutes of new material...8 minutes of covers...and 2 minutes of YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAA! But it was great! :D

I would listen to any ghey cover they did with Dave (Dancing in the Streets) over any Sammy (Jimmy Buffet wannabe, yellow mop top, beet red face due to screaming at the top of my lungs) Hagar tune, especially "Right Now"
Ah, I've found your Kryptonite.

queerness

This one's for Sammy.

Don't hear any love for 1984. Great album and I thought his tone was killer on that as well. Drop Dead Legs anyone?

Absolutely...and the breakdown at the end of House of Pain is just an all time classic  ...

Top Jimmy! flat-out awesome clean tone and an example of making an alternative tuning work without really thinking about it. Every song on that album is a keeper, except I gotta say "I'll wait" is my worst roth-era song. Just don't like the keyboards on it.

Well it's right up your dirt road then. :D

I could make a CD of Sammy songs I like, not near as good as DLR era, but not a complete right off either.

I'd take Sammy era VH over most of the tripe called rock released in the late eighties/early nineties.
Way tooo much 'She's My Cherry Pie' kind of stuff....the eighties needed to end right there I tell ya. The hair, the makeup, the clothes...what was next? ...every guy in the band get a breast job.

you see, and I really like that song, it makes me happy
Does it make you dance?

Are you old guys forgetting that vh pioneered the concept of cover songs by doing the over-the-top supercharged guitar thing ???

i like the covers but the ones theypicked for diverdown are kinda cheese

1984 - it was entry point into VH for me, after that discovered VH1 and so it went from there.....

"In a simple rhyme", last track from WACF, is one of my favorite VH tunes. Not a well known tune, but I love it. They've probably never done it live.

Love all the DLR era albums. As far as best, can't choose between VH1, WCAF, Fair Warning, or 1984. I think VH II has just as much filler as Diver Down.

Come on Steve...................5150 or Eatem?

Bought both albums, went to both shows which one was the Live without a Net show in New Haven and I could not find my 5150 album if my life depended on it. Billy was getting on my nerves with his shred bass though I will admit

Ladies Night and Big Trouble >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>5150

BTW will be needing some advice soon on EVH's detune as I have an H3000 coming

Eatem, however, you said "Roth did it better than Van Halen could". Roth was better when Eddie was writing for him.

Well entire catalogs yeah well......................well I have nothing to say

After the breakup though and going by what their first efforts were knowing full well each one wanted to blow the other way Dave nailed it

I am stoked about the Eventide, the magic box back then and now I have it to go with the SDE-3000 and SDX-330! Total Vai rack

I'd have to go with 1984. Great guitars, lots of great songs, and the timing for me was perfect. I was just getting into rock and roll at that point and the first two tapes I bought were 1984 and Shout at the Devil.
