This was a cool video. Its amazing how many very different tones on many different genres were obtained with a JCM plus a pedal. Its strange in the 80-90's you could go from RATM to Obituary with a JCM.

800 by a mile. the Mids just don't get any better than a Marshall like some one else said they just sit in a perfect place. i think the VH2 is a little muddy to my ear.

Marshall by far...no amps can get there...it why it’s the only amp I play anymore!

I don't understand comparisons where one amp has a boost and the other doesn't. It may just be an SD1 but you are still hitting the front of the amp with alot more signal and it makes a big difference. Now maybe if you were just trying to see if you can get the marshall to sound like the Diezel then I can see it .
I have owned both and the Diezel can go places the marshall never dreamed of. I didn't watch the entire video so I don't know if you have the EQ's set the same. I'm pretty sure you don't. And I'm confident the depth isn't turned up on the diezel. If you really want the Diezel to come alive take those KT77's out and drop some EL34's in, it will make a world of difference.
Both amps sound good, not trying to hate on your thread. I just know from experience that these are 2 completely different amps

Wow both sound killer!
Prefer the marshall in this just slightly

All good and I understand your point. The 800/SD1 combo is like a standard to me. It always sounds awesome and has been proven over the years to be a staple for a hard rock sound. But the 800 alone, with low output buckers like I have, gets nowhere near the VH2s levels of gain. So this was less a JCM800 vs VH2 and more of a 800/SD1/Quintessential Hard Rock rig vs VH2.

I wasn't trying to make either amp sound like the other. Dialed both in to sound good to me and went from there. It's not scientific nor professional. It just is what it is.
