Dare I ask…?

This was my old rig at the church in Japan. I got a new helix, but haven’t found a place to play here yet. I think my next gig will just be a helix straight in. I do like a floor monitor; not all churches have the $ for full in ear solutions for everyone.

Edit to add: complete overkill. But fun.
what was the verdict on the Nano?

I'm always terrified i'll get struck by lightning when I enter the building, but when they do ask me to play, it's my regular pedalboard using a Tonex One for amps. We have a semi-silent stage, in-ears, no amps on stage. I have my board set up where i can use the Tonex as an overdrive when using amps, or use it as an amp for direct with just a cable change.

I don't know anyone doing church gigs here who isn't using a modeler and silent stages (asides from the drums). 🤢
I was offered a full time paying gig to be a performer by a Mega church.

I stopped performing worship music like that that same day.

I still do charity guitar performances for the local churches and stuff but am not an active musician in a band like that anymore.

I know it is odd to some, as that would be the 'dream' gig for many. Just didn't sit right with me.

That could drag this wayyyy off topic.....

More on point - all of the church musician's I know use digital now. They have for awhile. I am fortunate that the Rivera has a silent/no cab capability so I still get to use my tube amp to FOH with an effects board instead of a Helix of whatever is around.

Its just the ease of playing shows, and while the feel may not be perfect, the sound is pretty close even for purists and indistinguishable for the average individual
Tossing an amp onstage and hooking up two cables still seems pretty straightforward to me tbh.

I see youre a fan of james tyler guitars based on your signature…jims been dead for several years, but they still make “his” guitars. Is that any more/less authentic than the modelers?
I am a fan, the headstock is beautiful. However, I have never so much as touched one because I can't afford it and JAMES TYLER type guys would never let a dirtbag like me try their 8k strat.

One of the guys in my band does two sunday services at a mega church. They pay really well and he plays like 3 songs per service which works out to about $50 per song but he says they do not even recite the Lord's prayer once. I found that disturbing. I would never be able to take a gig like that. Probably smells like mayonnaise incense up in there. Yuck.

Being your own roadie sucks man 😅

Geez, what are you planning on doing with it?

Also remember to track down a pre-2000. Thats before they went CNC so Jim would have likely at least done some work on it!

I would feel like a fraud if I my wife could carry my "amp" around in her purse.

I'd probably just turn down the chance. Some people don't get to have nice things.

On point 1, thats why I bought a school sized backpack so i dont have to let her carry it 😂

Now i dont see any reason you cant have nice things, everyone gets something nice.

If I could fit it under my hat I might consider it just cause it would look cool to pull a twin reverb out from beneath a homburg.

I have nice people in my life instead.

All my belongings are more or less disposable garbage at this stage. Ten years of living rough will do that. I bought a pretty nice Gibson last year and it's already turning into a piece of junk just from regular usage.

Just by a tonex one, or whatever the tiny pedal is called. Then you can keep it in your hat!!!

Mega churches are creepy af.
I’ve worked construction building them and any “church” with that size budget isn’t doing God’s work, whatever that may be.

I agree. I wish they would bring back steeples and church bells ringing in neighborhoods and stuff. The church bells anger demons and drive them away. There are quite a few mega churches in this area. Most of them looks more like mall shopping centers than a church from the outside.

Orthodox liturgy is all chant and generally no instruments are allowed although a few modern Greek churches have organs. If I want to see a band I go to a club not church but I gig with many players who play in church bands, mostly baptist, catholic, and mega church gigs.
I cannot imagine one of these type bands in a Catholic Church. I think they would be burned at the stake within 15 minutes.

I'm 43 and have seen an electric guitar at a catholic mass only once that I can remember, and it was at university and it never happened again in the years I was there.

Since you are not Don Barzini why would you pick a play on his username? Just curious...

Well i remember his antics, and they were pretty funny and are seared into my head

It was just a spur of the moment “what should my username be” and thinking no one else would remember him

Clearly “I did not ponder it enough”
