Yup Chris is right, i was talking about the Craig Goldy sub gig which Doug played on!

FWIW.. Doug's rig in Whitesnake is almost identical to his rig during those Dio days. He uses several Camerons and a John Suhr/Martin Golub modded JMP. There's always a couple other amps in there, but it seems no other amps stay fulltime in that rig other than the Camerons and Suhr/Golub modded Marshall!

Greenback reissue loaded cabs too. I honestly can say that Doug sounds almost the same thru every rig he plays.. its kinda freaky how much similar he sounds through totally different rigs!!!

But yeah man, his tone is the best live guitar tone I've heard and probably ever will hear! Freaking awesome! I told him that too and he was like "you really think so?" That dude is so modest it's not even funny.

Same here. I've been going to concerts since '82 and have seen everyone from Holdsworth, SRV in a tiny club, early VH, Gary Moore, Motorhead (more volume than tone!), and on and on, and I will never forget the way Doug sounded in Fort Wayne Indiana. I think his attitude, aggressive style, and stage presence helped a lot, and it didn't hurt that he nailed all the Vivian stuff exactly either.

Can a stock DSL honestly nail those tones? Im guessing it also depends on the speakers right?

To me, that has more distortion and is more compressed than a stock DSL. Sounds like a DSL with an OD pedal to me. Could be his playing style or the way he has it dialed in, though. That's not at all the tones I get from DSLs.

Do you pin the gain on your DSL or use the Verb?. That's pretty spot on to what I got at my friends store at low volume with the gain dimed and some verb added. When I backed out of the Gain It sounded less compressed and when I gave the amp some volume I was sold!!
That tone sounds like a low Volume DSL with the gain pinned and the verb up a hair but I could be wrong!

Well the DSL 50 I heard at my friends shop was very close to that sound at low volume with the gain on 10. The amp smoked when gunned a bit though

I think you're probably right and I'm wrong. No, I don't dime the gain. It depends on the guitar, but I usually use the first mode on the distortion channel with the gain around 2:00 o'clock.

I think the amp Doug used for this clip could have been a JVM that they keep up at GW.....I just E-mailed by buddy at GW to find out.....I'll post his response when he hits me back.
