Just curious but what do you guys think of the Peavey HP Special?

I was supported by Peavey and my local Peavey dealer, playing Wolfgangs and 5150's.

When they quit making Wolfgangs, they sent me two HP Specials via the dealer to try.
I compared them head to head to my favorite Wolfgang and there was no comparison, I told the dealer to send 'em back.

I have no idea what they are like today, but at the time I was told by Peavey they were supposed to be as close to the Wolfgang as legally possible. No way. Not even remotely in the ballpark. That was the first bad dealing I had from Peavey, up to that point their support and service was stellar.

This thread is not great for my gas right now. I have been going back and forth between wanting a Parker Nitefly, or an EVH wolfgang special with the stop tail. Either way I won't be able to buy something for at least another two months...I have played a few of the new wolfgang specials, and they kick some major ass. Especially with the locking nut, and fine tune fixed bridge. I just wish that the D tuner worked with that setup.

I've owned several wolfgangs in the past. Now I have two EBMM Axis'. I love them. No other guitars come close. I did swap the pickups in my number two with USA PV pickups. Now that one sounds a bit more like the wolfgang, but feels better. The other one I have is stock, and is my number one.

I have a HP Spec CT Custom, made in 2008 in Meridian MS. There is so much variation with the CT Customs (fixed vs trem bridge, different body woods, different body shape than a Wolfgang, etc) that I'd assume a lot of them sound different from each other, let alone like a Wolfgang.

The only one I have seen in person is mine, it plays and sounds great. :rock:

A little late to this thread but I found the same thing exactly. They are my all time favorite guitar. Every time I see them I want to buy 10 of them.

Owned several and came to these 2 conclusions;

1) They were some of the most consistently best sounding guitars that I have ever played and

2) While I loved playing Rhythm on them, I couldnt gel with them for leads at all...
