Forum jams?

20 person jam is tough to make cohesive...but out of the 20+ that responded, at least 50% will flake. You could do a 5-8 person jam pretty easy. If more want in, more projects could cover everybody. This requires a Director who will work much harder than the particpants and make executive decisions regarding tone and mix.

This does not mean someone could throw out a tune and everyone take a crack at it and control their own version. That's definitely an easy project to do-no Director needed, just a post of a backing track. I have less interest in this, but many here appear game, so go for it.

When one puts themselves "out there" online, involves themselves in hugely hyped shoot outs, forum jams, sharing new artist's work, etc., it garners attention; the vast majority of it (in James' case) has been positive.

There will always be someone with something negative to say, that just comes with putting your work out in a public forum; the only time I'd be concerned, is if I felt the product was a poor representation of my skills.

I didn't get his comment when he made it, and I'm glad to see he's changed his thoughts on the matter.

If one's reputation is so fragile (not referring to James, here, just a generalization) it can be damaged by one comment, from any one forum poster, it isn't much of a reputation.

Edit- For the record, I'm NOT referring to Rupe, just negativity, in general.

Man do I ever regret saying anything now. If I could go back in time. This is old crap with me guys, about a year and half ago I was in a financial/production meeting at Disney with a client, her parents and their lawyer and the Disney exec is a guitar player and comes on here occasionally, so in front of everyone he made comments about people ragging on me around here for the shootout about their amps not sounding good and blaming me. I was fucking humiliated and wanted to crawl under the rug. So that is where a lot of this came from, I was already pissed off about some things that went down that were out of my control but I took the heat and this just cemented the agony and regret I already was feeling for doing it in the first place. Anyway personally I'm done with it, it's over.

Wow... I guess that's one way it could affect you. That was also a very unprofessional thing for that dude at Disney but nonetheless...

So I take my son tonight to his first movie 'Finding Nemo' in 3D, I'm watching the movie and I start freaking out about what I wrote last night on this thread. It all kind of hit me. I just want to oplogize for what I wrote. I was wrong and it's not really how I feel it's just a lot of old shit got stirred up in me. Anyway I just want to say I am sorry and I was wrong.

I dont think there was anything wrong with what you wrote James....you put a TON of effort into that jam and to have someone call you out and question what you did...well that is just plain wrong. Someone puts 15 minutes into recording a clip (wrong for that matter...), and then you do everything within your power to get it into the final product so that at least the guy is heard vice just getting dropped, along with the crazy number of hours you spent to put it all together in the first place...only to now be blasted for it....yeah I would have written some crazy shit up on the forum also...LOLOL THe dude could have easily just posted his opinion on how to do it and left your name out of it....and all would have been just fine...but to be called out...that I call BS on...20 other dudes clips were just fine on your jam and the one guy who submitted his without following your directions at all comes back to say you didnt do his clip justice....ummm...what should he reasonably have expected?? You should have jsut left his clip out of it and been done with it...

For 98% of us here on the forum, this is just simply a hobby, our reputations mean absolutely NOTHING on here as far as our employment and being able to support our families...whereas you are in the 2% that your reputation means EVERYTHING as far as future employment goes and quite literally ANYTHING negative or sub standard actually affects your income and your ability to support yourself and your family. Yeah, I would by hyper sensitive also....if I was in your shoes....

Unfortunately, until they come out with the "Musical Talent" pedal, I will just be on the sidelines...
Dude - you are WAY out of line here. No one blasted anyone. Rupe simply pointed out that his take was not lined up properly and it lost the vibe. He admitted that he sent the wrong file type and said he didn't mean to attack James.

For what it's worth, I've never seen one of these 20+ person jam compilations go off without someone not liking the result. Weekend warriors or not, we are musicians and generally have very specific feelings about what we want to hear. That is why just putting up a backing track and letting everyone take a crack is the best approach - each of us maintains control of the final product.

Finally, as Bob said. I can't imagine someone seriously considering a recording project not going with James because of something said by someone on rig-talk. If that were true, you probably wouldn't want them as a client anyway.

Steve

Wait....so its ok for someone to say"yeah, the last time I submitted something for a forum jam, James screwed it all up" and you think that doesn't hurt his reputation?? Where exactly do you think budding musicians hang out at?? If I was spending my hard earned cash on getting something produced, and I heard something online that was a bit lackluster...you bet your ass it would affect my decision...

All I was saying was it was messed up for James to be named....and that I understand his reply...thats all....sorry..dont think I was out of line at all for defending James comment....
Please point out where ANYONE said, "James screwed it all up."

Steve

Although Steve already covered it well, I'll add that I was simply referring to the project and not James personally. In no way, shape, or form was anybody "called out" as you put it. I also went on to explain that I was to blame. You've always seemed like a reasonable dude to me so I'm somewhat surprised to see you read so much in to so little (such as the ridiculous bolded statement above). I'll assume you woke up today and had a large dish of Drama Flakes...hopefully we'll see you return to your reasonable demeanor soon.

That guy is a completely unprofessional asshole, but it could happen to anyone that puts themselves out there in any way. Someone could post that they heard my amp in person and it sounds like shit and that could affect my sales, but what are ya gonna do? You can't let that shit affect you. You just have to believe in the product/service you are providing and keep on.

For an inexpesive recording solution, I think the Line6 UX1 is a fantastic value, it comes with pod Farm 2 and sounds quite decent, and very convenient. Also got a mic input for when you want to mic your amp.

Plus one! But it's the ux2 has the mic inputs. I use it with Sony acid. Dirt simple to use! And cheap...

Btw: crankyray? Almost your entire list was over my head.... Just sayin...

The new studio setup is almost finished.
I should be able to get started on the Backing Track/s tonight.

As I wrote before ^^^ I personally am more interested in the "All Together Jam" rather than the "Do it Yourself" type, but when I get the tracks done and uploaded please feel free to do your own if thats more your style!??!

Sorry, it was just a generalization on my part...and you're right...I have been a pissy bitch for a while now, lots of personal crap going on in my life right now...LOL...(you read me like an open book). I get really sensitive about any negative criticism when someone puts in countless hours for others benefit...you should see me complain abut my neighbors!! LOLOLOL All I really was trying to express is that James name should have been left out of your comment is all....as my initial reaction really was "Wow...he is bitching about all the work James did" when I read it...and I am sure if I did that many other did too...nothing more, nothing less...

Love to see this thing get off the ground....put me down for some greasy licks.

I'm not sure what you're saying- the information is over your head or the cash flow?
Bare minimum price is probably a 57, an interface between 100-200, and a decent CPU. I think many of these interfaces come with a bare bones DAW to get you started.
If you can swing a MAC, apogee makes killer products relatively cheap for apple and Garage Band (DAW) will work fine for you until you hit Logic.

If the information was the issue, I was only talking about gear: 57= mic, 11R= interface, Rain= CPU

Good luck

First, I was impressed w/ James' willingness 2 take on what I considered a Herculean project, everyone's hopes pinned on what certainly wudnt b considered his first working priority, an still due to his skills managed 2 turn out some cool worthwhle product. And I'm glad he's back after what seemed like a meltdown with backstory cause he's always seemed like a ultracool guy to me, busy as hes been, willing 2 abuse himself on our behalf for taking on such a project 2 begin with..
And, I wana thank u guys 4 the recording input, as I've said, I've had recording setups in the past on PC, with not 1 but 2 systems s#!tting the bed with all my work on it (nope, no backups....) and wondered; since I'm looking to rebuild yet again from the ashes, if there wasn't a cheaper way than 2 replace my smoked antiquated tower an start over. Thx again, gents!
