Fear Factory on their Digimortal tour- TOO F'ING LOUD! Between the sheer volume and the vocals with an obnoxious amount of sauce (vox too loud for the mix too), 20 seconds into each song you had no idea what they were playing.
They also played MUCH, MUCH slower than the cd. Wouldn't have been a big deal, but here's the deal. I was never a big fan of that album, but I remeber that album having much faster kicks than previous efforts and being impressed the drummer upped his game. I also read an interview around that time with Dino describing the recording process and the whole thing is basically copied & pasted. I understand time is money and "you got to do what you to do" to get it done in the studio, but to the extent he described I thought it was a bit excessive. His defense was "we still got to pull this off live, we just wanted perfection on the album." Fair enough. Anyway, what a big let down to see they didn't (couldn't?) pull it off live.
Lamb of God - The worst "big name" live guitar tones I've heard. Sounded like they mic'd blown speakers. They certainly had enough cabs to chose from so I'm pretty certain that wasn't the case. Alder's rig was the main offender. Just pure balls. Morton's wasn't as bad, but it definitely wasn't helping matters either. The kick drum was stupid overpowering in the mix too.
