How far do you travel to go to guitar stores?

Probably a radius of up to 100km.

But now I tend to stick to just three or four guitar shops that are reputable.

I've got some decent places within 30 minutes of my house or job. I do need to make some time to drive down to Phil Jacoby's shop with a few guitars I would like Plekked...

I am in between 2 decent sized cites, about an hour travel to either one. So I don't get to the music stores often. Once every year or two. I buy most of my stuff online new or used. I found in general when I have visited the store, they don't typically stock what I am looking for if I am looking to buy new.

My friend on the other hand will drive the 2 hours to Chicago to go to music stores pretty frequently, but he is a DINK household.

I rarely make a dedicated trip to a guitar store. That said, i travel a lot for work so I'll plan my visits around my schedule...the old "two birds, one stone" thing.

The only music shops I'm willing to purchase from are roughly 2 hours away from me in opposite directions. I don't even have a guitar center in my city either.

With that being said, there is a couple of smaller shops in town, but they are absolute PRICKS about their gear and aren't willing to work with you at all on price and such. When I was shopping to order my PRS Tremonti, I ended up driving to a small shop in Charleston, SC which is roughly 2 hours from me because he would work with me on exactly what I wanted and gave me a KILLER price. A price that beat the shops close to me by about a grand and prices on the web by about 500 or 600. I'll probably never go elsewhere for gear now, as he's a Gibson, PRS, Mesa, Orange dealer ETC ETC.

There is a GC about 15 miles from me that I go to from time to time, mostly to try out pedals. A couple smaller shops that are closer that don't have much that I will pop in to from time to time. By and large, most of my music shopping is brought to you by the letters www...

Wow, I'm the odd man out; I can hardly remember the last time I went to an actual store.

I rely on internet to keep me up to speed on what's of interest to me and order online, used or new.

Me too. The closest guitar center Is an hour away and I hate those damn places. Last time I went to a store was to buy a used Mesa 412 at a guitar center 3 hrs away to Memphis, TN. Before that I hadn't been to a real guitar shop in a few years. I rarely get to try something new unless I get to play with another guitarist with different gear or just buy without playing....which I have done a lot.

Ive gone as far as to travel across the country to buy gear. Some times its worth it other times not but its better then buying something waiting for the big brown truck to come and end up not digging what you bought

850 km round trip to pick up a VHT cab.
that's a 8 hour drive.

yeah, i'm nuts but the cost in gas was less than shipping

I read how far GC is from everyone. They've become the McDonalds of the music industry.
