This is the same guy in Off Topic who said he needs to hire a hooker because he could never get laid otherwise. Apparently he is a "hiring" troll.
I’m asking you to consider the propositions in/of themselves. Not evaluate or judge me.

Evaluation is part of consideration.
Concluding “troll” is hardly evaluating anything. It’s an easy, overused, cookie-cutter response to something that seems different to you. Just because it might seem odd to you doesn’t make it a troll.

But all trolls say that.

Okay, if y’all won’t just answer my damn question without nit picking me and calling me a troll, then at least tell me what I should expect to pay a hired gun, and how I should pay them (i.e. pay them only for their time in rehearsal and for gigs? Pay them a set salary? etc.) I didn’t know that hiring musicians was such a novel ass idea that only a troll would think it.

Pay them $20/hr for practice and $50 an hour for gigs, and give them $1000 a week for tolerating your bullshit. Haha.

If you have the songs already written and ready to go, then hiring musicians on a contractual basis makes sense for recording or touring. As for pay it will depend on where you are located.

If you are looking for musicians to collaborate with in terms of writing or promoting music then you’ve got the wrong business model

Contact some local studios and ask them what their session musicians charge. You could also find some local bands you like and contact the individual members to ask them how much they would charge for their time.

Learn to write and program drum patterns, and do it all yourself. When you have enough material written recorded and copyrighted, release it yourself and use that to audition members for you band. Negotiations should be handled professionally, stating plainly and simply that it's your project and you are in charge.
My question assumes that I’m going to do this. I’m sorry for not making that clear. Yes, I understand that I must first have material ready to go, or else I’d be standing on a house of cards.. I’ve written five full songs, but haven’t recorded them. That will be my first step obviously, along with composing more material.

Also note, you are hiring artists. As you yourself have artistic expression, they will too. If you choke someone's artistic expression, you will breed contempt. See your provided example of Dave Mustaine. Or Papa from Ghost. Or Lars and James verses Newstead. Eventually you get tagged as hard to work with, and people will be wary of dealing with you.

And until you get cheated of song writing credit and royalties(no matter how small they may be in these times)you will never know just what that feels like.
Thanks for the insights and words of caution.

If your serious about this and dont want to half ass it you need a music lawyer to draw up contracts between you and the guys you want to hire. They will know you are for real, and both them and you are protected. For rates, if the lawyer doesnt know then you can contact the musicians union and see what the rates are for hired guns, session guys.. then choose accordingly. You can always give them options for points on album sales/gigs etc.. but that would all HAVE to be spelled out in a contract. I wouldnt take much of anything too serious if I didnt have contracts drawn up

You will pay union scale, research it.

Call the Musicians union and they'll break down the rates for touring, recording, A Tier, B Tier. You'll pay more if you choose to hire Steve Lukather, and Dave Weckyl than Joe Blow, and Johnny no name

Nothing wrong with it I guess but it won't feel like "a band" :dunno:

Look, if you are really really good and the music you wrote is stellar and you have cash to burn - knock yourself out. But you'd have to be really good me thinks to make it in this biz and that's coming from a guy on the outside. These other guys that have chimed in have more experience than I. Can you post a clip of your guitar playing? I'm curious as to your style, tone, genre, whatever.

Ill play whatever you want flawlessly and put on a great show AND get you laid for $70k a year.

Haha. $65k and I promise all of the above BUT with just a sock.

it depends, what kind of employment contract will you use?
give more info!

some questions:
will you be paying them sick days to?
how many holidays can they get off per year?

also do you have some of your work we can listen to, depending how good your stuff is maybe we can help you out.
also how much can you spend per year? there are so many cost accept from the salary.

How do you expect to pay people salaries without any idea of how good you guys will even be?
Like any job, you audition/interview them. You hire the best ones who fit the best. If they start underperforming, you fire them, then replace them.

My limited knowledge tells me successful bands are bands that start out with common goals and common interests. Friends often.

This is too damn hard to find these days. Too many flakes out there. Most people are not my style (which I’m not willing to compromise on), and I ain’t got that kind of time. I want to cut right to the chase, hire players for my band, and make the music I want to make. I want to be a band, not a solo artist, so I need to hire members who are right for the project.

311splawndude":tfihkq1t said:
Edit: I hope you are not trolling because I think you've been called out on that before. If so, I want my thirty seven seconds back.
I’m not sure why you would see this as trolling. What’s wrong with what I’ve suggested here? This is typically what one would do if they had vision for a startup business and wanted to hire talent to work for them. Why all the sudden do people frown on this when it involves music? If I’ve got the money to pay these guys, then what is wrong with me wanting to just hire players for my band to make it the way I want it?

If you hire them, it ain't a band. It may look like a band in pictures, but it's not :)
If you find people good enough, willing to be there when you call, no matter when you call, they're good enough to jump to a higher bidder. Everyone's a flake when money's involved.

I'd hire a lawyer and have him set up a contract. The thing is, you'll have to pay them if you sell a million albums, but you have to pay them if all you sell, is five albums to your family members as well. That's the luxury of being a paid musician.

In the end, you'll be band leader, management, and record company. And song writer as well.

Sounds like a hell of a lot of work, but if you really want it, you can probably have it :)

When I think about it, you want to be Yngwie and Dave Mustaine

edit:
I read the rest of the thread, and saw I wasn't the only one thinking about Mave and Yngwie

Not a concern. I washed it a few gigs ago...
