Having owned the VH4 twice, I agree. The Paul suits me much more...

It is very similar to another I really like, the Suhr PT15IR.

But this one has a little more girth overall in channels 2 and 3.

The nature of the overdrive is really interesting in the Diezel amps. They have wonderful saturation, but retain clarity. This one feels really nice under the fingers. I like it a little more than Suhr offerings...

I purposefully picked the Aldrich for its darker thickness. I have other guitars with lower output pups. TV Jones, SSV, Thornbuckers, SSH.

if I had to only have 1 Diezel it would not be the Paul but I can defnitely undertstand that would be the case for some other people.

I have only read/heard good things about the Paul, even for higher gain tones considering expectations were adjusted to the amp style

Aa for the amps Peter built I really like the girth of the Herbert. Probably my favorite. Today anyway. The Paul has such a nice somewhat vintage voice. A bit warmer and creamy. Peter's work is like a obsession with detail. Impressive to say the least.

Both are awesome flavors.

The biggest difference is that the Splawn always has a "klangy" tone to it. Not in a bad way. It is much more hot-rodded plexi to my ears. It is an awesome amp in its own right. It sounds big, lots of mids. Gets easier to play the louder you get.

The Paul has a way better feeling and sounding clean channel. The 2 channel can get AC/DC kerrang, the 3 channel reminds me of the VH4 3rd channel but with slightly more upper mids.

The Diezel is much more versatile overall.

I am going to let the QR go since I also have its little brother, the Streetrod 1x12 Combo.

I'm also going let go my other amps as well. The Diezel Paul is my huckleberry for the present...

I owned a Herbert MK1 before and I could not get it to do the lower gain "kerrang" tone I wanted along with the juicy high gain I loved.

The Paul does everything I want.....

It's a personal thing, obviously....

Even though its 100 degrees in my garage right now, I am going to go in there and crank the Paul...

Do you think that the Paul has enough gain for leads with the lower output pickups, or does it need a boost?
 
What about boosting for tight metal rhythms? I'm always on the lookout for something that can nail vintage rock tones and also get tight/brutal with a boost. I've owned the VH4 and Herberts Mk1 and Mk3. Really enjoyed all of them but in the end they weren't keepers.

Have you messed around with the FX loops at all? This may be a tall order, but can you try your FM9 in 4CM when you get a chance and report back? I'm curious.

I rarely use boosts. So, I'm not the person to ask...
