It cuts a lot of bass though, so be ready for that
I put the bass pretty high on my amp.
OK cool, thanks for the info. I guess I'm just used to using boosts that kinda give you "more" of the sound you already have dialed in when you kick it in.

I think with the Grind, I'm just gonna have to leave it on and re-eq the amp. I totally get the theory behind cutting the bottom on the front end and putting it back later with the bass or a depth control.

I ordered the pedal from Mike after I picked up a "Cali" mod JCM800 and was blown away with how cool the amp was. Wanted to see what he could do with a pedal and didn't really have any idea what to expect, other than something that would hopefully kick ass.

Got a Grind pedal direct from Mike a couple weeks back and haven't messed with it much yet, but I did notice it sure does shave off a lot of low end. You guys find the same thing with your pedals??

Yeah a huge amount. More than my ts. I got rid of it because it's definitely geared towards heavier stuff and I would have to basically dial my amp bass heavy to work with the pedal. I use my amp the other way and dial the ts to work with my amps tone. If I went back to playing death metal I would use it again.

Seems this pedal would work best with a Dual Recto or Uberschall. As they would benefit the most and the sound would be the most different on/off.

All I need to see. I think I'll stay with the koko boost, it's easily my fav pedal, I just thought about grabbing a grind pedal to compare, and keep one but sounds like a clean boost is where I need to be

I got one of these that I ordered direct also. Should land wed. Planning on using it with my dmoll, for a different attack and more immediacy. Love the stock tone, but saw a video of a grind with the Herbert that made me want to try one with my Diezel. It has more than enough range on my deep knob. So I know I'll prob have to boost that up when I engage the pedal.
I'm just looking for a cool new voice in the fortin vein

i have been a fan of mike's work from the beginning. but, the grind pedal....not so much. its noisy and has the same affect of rolling off bass control on the amp. not sure when i would need that particular tone at my disposal.

Some amps are great for huge wall of sound (like rectos) but with lower tuning or 7 and 8 strings they can turn to mush. This pedal is amazing for getting high gain crunch to be tight.

IMO he's the best out there. I was lucky enough to have my dream amps custom wired from scratch (even handwound transformers). But if I didn't have them, I'd have a Fortin.

I'm on my 2nd Grind
With my EVH it seems too extreme
With the DMoll it sounds wonderful!

The grind is a take on the Ts effect. Pre distortion EQ with boost SANS CLIPPING. The TS808 are popular im the high gain crowd as an eq curve with boost. Most use high level and low drive. The ts808 cuts bass and highs and boosts in this fashion.

Pre distrtion eq has bandwith distortion effects the post EQ does not.. For example turning down bass before the amp lessens the distiortion in the low frequencies, the post EQ cannot do this.

The grind is cool. Has nice dynamics at 18 volts. Nicely cleans up low end distortion by trimming bottom but doesnt seem to trim anything off the top. A little too sharp and grindy up top for me but that IS the thrasy grind sound after all.

I get much better results with my vfe FOCUS for my uses. Completely variable.

I found one setting with the grind i like but it grew fatiguing in the high end.

Glad to hear this, it's what I plan to use it with

Right on! I was just totally getting lost on the Grind>DMoll chain. Super fun aggression!
Funny because I felt the exact opposite with the Grind>EVH.
I may have to make a few clips for you to keep you lusting on your delivery, lol

Oh here's s clip from my 1st Grind from last year
Crap playing but the tone comparison is easy to hear
Around 2:45 I show stock with aggressive treble and presence then dial those 2 back when the Grind is on to hear the differences

Thanks Ray
Sounds grindy for sure. Sounds like it'll make a great tool for the Diezel, to get that alternative fast attack and slice

Wow that video really shows dmoll is a baby Herbert. Trimming bass before all my Diezels sounds good.

Well, what a great start to the week. The grind landed today. So I made a special trip home during lunch to try it. I have to eq my dmoll COMPLETELY different, but when I found it, it was exactly what I was hoping it would do. Gets some nasty slice. I found if I put it after my pro rack g, it adds zero noise.
On my chain before the pro rack, I noticed some extra noise for sure, not aweful, but I love it much more after the gate right before the amp input. (Edit: just read the isp website, they actually suggest pedals this way, go figure) Not a use for me live with my dmoll, but for home it's money, and LOVE IT.
Kinda makes me wanna get a fortin head now.

Cool it landed early
I may bring mine out on my live board. For 2-3 tunes it is super nasty and fast tracking in a great way; the tunes that are more fast picked metal.
Most of our material won't need it, but that just means it's time to write some more stuff, lol. Later on blues rock!

Glad it worked out for you. Grind is out of my price range so I just ordered an EHX Knockout hoping
To get similar results

According to the manual the filters are:

85Hz, 7-Pole Low-Pass Filter
6.5kHz, 6-Pole High-Pass Filter

Won't do grind sounds but you will be able to shape your tone a bunch.
