John Mayer’s insane EVH rig

I don't get the "benefit the homeless" thing.

Does that mean giving them money for drugs and cardboard boxes?

Haven't they realized what they are doing isn't working yet?

Or do they want to grow the homeless population for $5 votes.

it's a circle jerk that funnels money to NGOs that are owned and managed by frens of demoncrats and the money finds its way to campaign donations to their frens in office, or to fund other leftist NGOs.

follow the money, find the truth.

same thing for the anti-ICE protests, free palestine, teacher's union, save ukraine, etc., ... the model works well. nothing changes except who gets richer or elected by participating in the money laundering.

edit:

and it's all legal, to a point. DOGE only found the tip of this iceberg. the corruption is systemic.

then we have corporate donors, they donate millions to PACs and campaigns; then the elected officials reward these corporations in return, in the billions in various ways. they buy access and influence of the ruling parasites. these companies make a great ROI on their initial investment, but as in any extortion the price goes up and never ends.

follow the money

I concur I just wish the focus was really helping people that need it.

Have to keep this in mind when people discuss their guitar preferences, too

When people complain about les paul weight or baseball necks I laugh - like im sure @tallcoolone or other tall guys do. Yes maybe for the short kings a les paul is heavy or the neck is big, but for us big guys it's actually quite comfortable

I love wolfgangs, but I would never buy one or play one live as they are tiny and look like toy guitars
I'm 5'6" so practically an ass sniffing midgit and my favorite and most played guitar is my Les Paul 50's neck that weighs 9.8 lbs. Some people are just pussies. Unless you have a back problem or are really old like over 70 then maybe I could see it.

I'm with you man, I don't get it at all. The constant pissing and moaning about guitar weight makes me want to pull my hair out. Like yeah obviously if you have a back injury or something that's one thing; but 90% of the time it's just people who are perfectly healthy being a little bitch.

I sold my fender bandmaster head and cabinet to a guy who is in his mid 20's, and what I generally describe as an "offset shitter" - I.E., started playing during covid, has a pedalboard with 5k worth of strymons and caroline and eqd, can barely play power chords. he is perfectly healthy, young, and totally obnoxious.

He was telling me about how he has bought and sold 4 different mod shop jazzmasters over the last couple years, and of course I was curious why.

Well apparently the first three mod shop jazzmasters were (GASP) over 8 pounds! THE HORROR!!! Eight whole pounds of guitar!

I'm 6'5", I make most of my guitars look small, especially headless guitars, like my Gittler.

I feel the same way about dudes who whine about the weight of a Twin. Unless you are severely injured it's just not that big of a deal unless you load it with speakers that send it past about 90lbs.

It's that way with the weight of any tube amp; unless you've got injuries or whatever there really isn't any excuse, because by the time youre too old to carry around a decent size tube rig (I.E. a twin/decent sized combo, head plus 2x12) you probably shouldn't be gigging at all anymore if that's too much for you. How the fuck are you gonna help the drummer load his kick drum or 100lb cymbal case in if you can't fucking carry a hot rod deluxe?

That's obviously a different situation if you have a back injury or whatever, but in a normal situation there's just very little excuse for it besides being lazy and being a bitch lol

It's mostly cultural laziness behind it all. A dude in my bros other band is 80 and uses a quilter 🤮 but tells me every time he sees me that he'd love to be gigging a Twin again but his back won't take it. He's a good player but about half the band is geriatric to the point I don't think they will be a group very much longer...

The real key is to just get one of those cheap folding hand trucks. As long as wheels are involved, moving shit isn't that tough. Work smarter not harder. Hell, a 4x12 is the easiest thing to move until stairs get involved.

I mean good for him that he's 80 and still going, but god damn man

I would think more of him if he was making actual quilts than using a Quilter. 🤮

There's plenty of guys in their 50s, 60s, and 70s playing the original punk circuit up here - and without fail, every single one uses a big tube amp of some kind. The smallest rigs you will commonly see is like a mark V25 with a 1x12 or 2x12, or a tiny terror on a 2x12ppc.

The vast majority of rigs, even the old dudes, are twins, jcm800s, plexis, rectos and 4x12s, and i got nothin but respect if youre an elder statesman and still keepin it real with your tone

My bro plays drums so we always have a HD dolly in the truck. It can be converted to a 4 wheeled cart to really haul a pile of stuff.

Well, the bassist had his foot removed and is still doing gigs. That should give you an idea. It's probably what's keeping him going. Let's be real, none of us want to give it up when it comes down to it. It's what we know.

It's a 101 reverb or whatever. Supposed to sound like a BF Fender. Instead it's just the worst sounding "pro" amp I've ever tried. You can dial it in for mud or for harsh, your choice. You know it's bad when I'd rather plug into a Katana.

I've had the misfortune of plugging into one of those before and can honestly say it was the only amp that made me miss my Blue Voodoo. It was almost as bad as my first early 80's ss Crate which was one of the worst Crates ever and that is saying something.

A blue voodoo is a great amp by comparison. Most of those SS Crates were awful but were mostly geared towards the low end guitar student market IIRC. The Quilter is sold as a lightweight alternative to a pro level gigging amp. What a POS. Dudes over at JGF always say "quilters are great" then when I point out the 101 they say "oh yeah that one isn't any good". Yeah, it's a solid state POS like the rest of their line. Claiming it's BF-like is fraudulent marketing. Why would I consider any of their other junk, lol.

I had the misfortune of having another guitar player with a quilter in my cover band, for a time.

He used the 101. It was horrific.

Dude's tone was absolutely obnoxious. He suffered from many boomer-isms, but the grab-n-go quilter rig was the worst offense. It can either be harsh and brittle (with single coils) or muddy (with humbuckers) and there's no in between.

You seem to get easily angered by little things. I recommend letting this one go. 😀
