....When (in his timeline of glory) was Ed's rig sound the most important to you. what album and or rig most inspiring?

But I got to go with this fr

I must add at 2:24 when add plays the taps in double time : what Alex plays with him at that moment to is just brilliant . They both lock in for that lick . So cool

I love the tone on 1984 best. For live tone, I really like Live Without a Net, which is light years better than the tone on 5150. I have the Die Laughing bootleg and that tone is pretty awesome too. I didn't get to see them live until the 5150 tour and was too young to care about tone back then.

Van Halen 1 through Fair Warning. Diver Down and 1984 are still great. It's such a shame the band broke up and they all went in to seclusion after the 1984 album, never to be heard from again.

Eruption kind of changed my life. I remember where I was the first time I heard it. It was one of the first times it occurred to me how awesome guitar is as an instrument. I’d say that makes the VH1 rig kind of it for me.

But the Live Right Here Right Now album has the best tone Ed ever put to tape, so it’s kind of a toss up.

I like the guitar sound on 1984 best overall, but the VH1 tone, albeit overrated imo, is great too
