Huge fan of Mesa, Marshall, Engl. Marshall BV cabs tends to be my favorite. They are brighter, more scooped, and have more low end than the Mesa cabs because they aren’t built as stiff. Just different. But, as everyone knows, the same speakers all sound different. I have BV cabs with Marshall celestion vintages from 91 all the way up to 2005

I prefer well broken in, older Marshall cabs.

I have a red plate 1960a clone that's fantastic.

Bogner straight cabs are killer. Esp the older 90s ones.

I would love to try the Fryette fb with the fanes, hear nothing but good things.

There's a million options it just depends on what you want

Marshall 1960AHW with Heritage G12H30's. I was stupid to sell mine a decade ago. Beautiful looking cab & metal handles. It bonded with every amp I had at that time.

Mesa 412 Traditional Straight with stock V30 and K100 in an x-pattern. EVH 5150iii EL34 412. Think when I order a Wizard I will get a matching cab with Redbacks.

The EVH cabs are very good for the price.

If you can find one, the older USA Randalls are top shelf.

I think the FB could likely work very well for you. I like my VHT FB 412 a lot. It's very tight, punchy, and direct sounding. Not sure if the Fane's would be your thing or not though. They sound big and move air, but have this very flat/bland quality to the mids sorta like the Hiwatt's & Wizard's. That being said the Fane Crescendo's, which I'm lucky to have 5 of, are imo some of the best speakers ever made

I've had my best tones with bogner, Friedman and Dr. Z cabs.

I have an avatar in a road case and it fucking kills. Traditional style like an slo cab. has v-30's but not sure what type. Not sure if it's the case but it just crushes. I have a mode 4 cab sitting beside it that hardly ever gets used.

I generally like very specific older speakers with a specific "character"

I love the early UK vintage 30s (both Marshall and non marshall versions) as well as the old t75s (both vented and not vented)

And then any greenback based speaker is going to be in my wheelhouse.

Would you say the fane f70s are as "uncolored" as a 12L?

I can make evs work, but I guess I prefer more classic celestion stuff

The crescendos sound amazing in every clip I've ever heard but I doubt I'll ever get my hands on some

Haha most of my favorite gear in any category tends to be old and specific. I’m also getting older and more specific with age lol

I’ve not tried the F70’s, just the F90’s since they sounded a lot better to me in the comparison clips I’ve heard. The F90’s sounded to me sorta like a pretty decent re-issue of the Crescnedo’s when AB’ed (even if they weren’t intended to be that). Quite good imo for non-vintage speakers, but I’m spoiled with the real deal Crescnedo’s, so didn’t need to keep them around (had 6 at one point). The F90’s & Crescnedo’s I’d say are somewhere in between the EV’s & Celestions in what I think you’re talking about. Not as bland as the EV’s, but doesn’t have the midrange character or juiciness that you’ll find in celestions

For the stuff you do, if I were you I’d think the optimal speakers would probably be a combo of 20w pre-Rola’s gb’s with JBL D120F’s or maybe even E120’s, but obviously those are all very rare & expensive items. The Larry would I’m sure be glorious with those. The older uk V30’s makes a lot of sense too. Maybe also worth trying the heritage GB 20’s. Mine sound to me like a pretty good re-issue of the pre-rola ones I’ve got. The 20’s (heritage & pre-Rola’s) are both very tight & fast with super aggressive/grindy mids that aren’t at all nasal like the 25w versions. The only thing is they’re quite lean on the lows, which is why something like the JBL’s or Fane’s on bottom are the perfect complement to add beef

Cesar used a FB/Fane cab with your Larry before you…ask him. I played the Larry through my FB/Fane cabs briefly and it was pretty killer. That cab makes everything sound better IMO.

My Friend Detroit1973 on here has the 1960BHW and it sounds great with his Soldano Avenger but not as great with his PRS Archon 100watt.

To my ears and experience, it's really going to depend on your setup overall. especially the amp you're using. Some cabinets/speakers compliment an amp's sound really well and others bring out the worst in them. What amp are you using? and what dont you like about the mesa cabinet you have right now? and what do you like about the marshall 1960 cab?

I've used a 1960B marshall with celestion 75s (Regret selling this cabinet to this day), Splawn 412 with an x-pattern eminence governor and man-o-wars, then switched that to all V30s, had a 212 marshall with vintage 30s, 212 Splawn with V30s and 212 Splawn with WGS Retro 30s.

The same cabinet/speakers did not sound nearly as good as other cabinets with the same speakers. for example, the marshall 212 sounded harsh with V30s (bright and just boomy, mids were all in the high-mid spectrum) ... but the Splawn 212 with v30s sounded amazing (tight sounding, cutting but not harsh and mids were thick sounding).

The 412 cabinet with the Eminence mix speakers sounded amazing with at the time my ADA MP-1 3TM and VHT 2/50/2 setup but couldnt get along with the sound of it with the Splawn Nitro head. Take those speakers out and put all V30s and the story changed with the Splawn Nitro and that cabinets.. all the sudden it sounded thick and aggressive, in your face type sound. Loved cranking that up and riffing out some heavy fast riffs.

Good luck
