Cool to get a breakdown on how it was recorded and also that they felt the rack gear in the signal chain saved the sound (but true for most of our beloved recordings).
Also Pierce trying to make hay out of the “great” edge of breakup sound from the low input that didn’t sound any better than any number of amps with the gain turned down. He spent more time there than actually playing the amp as intended.
Also them saying the new one sounded better was pretty funny when the original had a more defined midrange and would probably mix better.
The YT folks definitely trying to glow up this thing.

I will say this, when Pierce was working the EQ it did make me think the amp might sound much better with the bass lower than in most of the clips I’ve heard so far. It would help the roar and bark come out a little more I think.

that's something I def want to mess with when it arrives tomorrow.. I don't like it too thick and dark, I don't want a bogner type tone. I'm curious to hear this thing through my cabs and gear

The build quality is good, though (same as the HW series). Like the modified 1959 and 800, not worth $4K unless you want the Marshall logo.

Apparently, they cost $4,000?

The same exact circuit with mostly the same parts and, arguably, even better transformers (Marstran, Merren, Heyboer) can be had for about $1,500 if you know where to look.

The R&D for this mod has already been done. It's on the SLO Clone Forum, Amp Garage, Ceriatone's layouts, etc. And all of the parts Marshall is using are fairly pedestrian: Alpha pots, Belton tube sockets, Cliff jacks, Vishay/ERO MKT1813 signal caps, generic carbon film resistors, and whatever electrolytics they're using (ARS, Ruby, F&T, TAD, JJ, etc.). None of that stuff adds up to $4,000. It's the labor and the branding. And labor can be had much cheaper. So all you're paying for is the Marshall logo and the Green Day association.

It's nice to have it all in an "official" package, though. I get that. It's probably perfect for that die-hard Green Day fan. But under the hood, it's nothing all that special.

Yes, of course you can source the parts and build it yourself- if you have the ability.. that's probably how much marshall has into it, maybe less... dave friedman has said that the margins are not that great on his 4k amps.. I know that if I tried to build one it would look with like a 3yr old did it. When marshall reissues were 1000 bucks used you could get a mod and have a decent amp for 1500 bucks.. those days are gone I think.

Yea, of course brands cost more than off label. You should let everyone know here where to get a 100 watt plexi built for 1500.. I'd like to know myself. I have a rockitt retro 100 watter that was 1800, about the cheapest out there. do tell?

There, I said it. Had a Fortin modded 800 Ceriatone clone. PT fried shortly after I played one gig with it. Replaced it, sold it. No thanks. Played a few more Ceriatones at GCs, Music Go Rounds....they had a strange high end. Yuck.
Maybe If you put different transformers, some vintage caps, resistors...well, then it's not a Ceriatone anymore lol...

I'm surprised by this. I've never owned one...But the reports on Ceriatone (particularly the Chupacabra and Yeti models) get very enthusiastic reviews both on reliability and tone.
