Love that song , always have . My mom had that record when I was a kid. Makes sense as Dave was big TOP fan but I never made the connection of What Is Hip influencing Mean Street . Seeing as Ed was a huge Grand Funk fan I thought Mean Street might have been inspired by Shinin` On

if you didn't grow up in the era when Edward came out, you have no idea how mind blowing it was to hear that first album. If you had any interest in guitar, you were shell shocked, and left with EPTSD.

Fun fact, Don Brewer is a cousin of mine.... distant, but yeah.
My mom had all sorts of stories of their younger years from around the Flint, Mi area.
