that’s one of the few I still like. The variety of that band is crazy good. All their songs sound way different to each other.
But Cornell had a big impact on that, too

We definitely need to talk about dave mustaine and metallica every second of every fucking day on every guitar forum on earth or its just not fair

Dang, I had no idea that something as simple as "Megadeth or Metallica" could get some folks so twisted up. I just happened to be listening to a little Megadeth yesterday and though it would be fun to choose your favorite, you're either right (Megadeth) or your wrong (Metallica). :ROFLMAO:

I guess because I don't do THA GIGZ or the post THA CLIPZ, then I'm not allowed to ask. :rolleyes:

That's a fair enough statement I can't argue against. He was. There at the conception for sure.

I love the first three Megadeth albums, and the first four Metallica albums. After that not so much. Testament on the other hand I like to love every single album.

I never liked either of these bands but the custodian where I work is always playing this kind of playlist loud when I come in to work early... Sometimes there is a cool song and I asked him who that is and he'll say either Metallica or Megadeth and I am surprised because it doesn't sound like the typical stuff I remember from them. I'm going to check them both out and see what I have been missing.

What are their top albums I need to check out first?

Frankly there's a few easy choices on that list for me. I mean come on, how is Transformers or Masters of the Universe even a question?

And sure, sitting is fine if you lack testicles, or want them gently misted with piss.

That's pretty much it.

Kirk I think has a good understanding of theory and a decent sense of melody. Not the biggest fan of his technique or vibrato. Too much wah wah too. When younger guitarists praise Kirk, I often don't say anything just to be nice. It's like someone saying "Hanz Zimmer is a great film composer" -- it hurts those of us who know better.

Maybe I should start another thread on why Hanz Zimmer is the Walmart of film composers.
 
Metallica hasn't written a meaningful album in years, Kirk and Lars can barely play their instruments. Meanwhile Megadeth's latest albums are all killer and Dave brings new blood to the band all the time. I'm super stoked to see what Teemu brings to the next Megadeth album. I haven't been excited about anything Metallica for most of my adult life.
 
Metallica. They have a better understanding of song writing, which is why their thrash albums were successful and why they became so popular when they shifted from Metal to Rock.
 
I’m confused by this thread, or maybe just out of touch w/the metal scene these days. We are discussing THRASH metal bands! Appealing to the masses & getting radio airplay wasn’t ever really a measure of success ‘back in the day’.

Clearly, Megadeth, as a thrash metal band, is superior to anything Metallica post Justice. After AJFA - Metallica lost their way. What would Cliff say for gods sake??

I never hear Maiden on the radio, for example.
 
I forgot the source where I read the information but after the MOP tour, if Cliff Burton hadn't died, Lars was going to get voted out of the band. Was this a legit scenario?
