Metallica just announced new album in November...

After watching the making of video, I guess it really doesn't matter what any of the fans things because it really looks like James and Lars were enjoying themselves! Loved the old Jackson King V on the wall. I assume that's the same one that he was using on the MOP tour that he broke. But hey, as long as they are having fun!

I must admit after seeing the making and a few other videos the song is kind of growing on me. I'm just glad they are still going strong and active.

I like it, we are lucky those bands are still around (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, Priest, Maiden, Exodus, Overkill, Testament, Accept, ect...) It suck but there will never be another metal band as big as Metallica.

It's been stuck in my head. That's how I know if I like something. I think it rocks

When Hetfield sings "We're so fucked, shit out of luck" I don't think he's talking anything about himself or the band mebers. The lyrics seem about what's going on in the world today. And right now those lyrics seem pretty accurate. The world is pretty fucked and the human race as a whole does seem hardwired to self destruct.

You know what? You're totally right.

For that matter:

The song Blackened should've had this in the lyrics: "Nuclear war is SO FUCKED!"

The song One should've had this in the lyrics: "My arms and legs are gone and I can't see. I'M SHIT OUT OF LUCK!"

That would've been much better.

:D

That reminds me of a scene from the movie Waiting for Guffman. After seeing a performance of a song in a musical (a really irritating/annoying song), a guy says something about "how catchy the songs are...almost annoying to a point, but that's a good thing right?" :)

It seems they may be going back to their older style of writing also. Lars and James come in and do the work then Kirk and Rob come in and do their parts. I know the last few albums they have tried to involve everyone from the get go but this video makes me think this go around they may have reverted back to Lars and James doing the larger part at the start. Either way it looks like they were having major fun during the making of video. That's what really matters. If music isn't fun anymore then what's the purpose.

The promo video on Metal Injection states: 2 discs, nearly 80 minutes.

I'm buying.

If you go for the deluxe CD it's 3 CD's. The 3rd CD has the riff origins which IMO might be pretty cool to hear how they sifted through the riffs.

I am very big fan of the band. I see them every chance I get, about 40 times so far. The music is OK, nothing they haven't done better in Kill em all, but still a few decent, thrashy riffs that will give you 3 minutes of enjoyment. That said, the lyrics are probably the worst Hetfield has ever written. The more I listen to the song the more I cringed when the chorus comes up.

and yes the chorus has the same chord progression as Repentless from Slayer, as a previous poster pointed out.

It's better then most new garbage out there

I like the new Anthrax, Megadeth, Prong. Looking forward to the new Testament. The last Iron Maiden had some decent tunes.
Metallica lost me at the Black album. I keep trying to like them with every release since then, but hasn't happened.
The solo on this tune was called in and unfinished. "We're so fucked"...? I'd believe it if someone else was singing it.
I think Mustaine had a similar idea, way better executed, with Lying In State. And I liked his modern punk rock vibe with Foreign Policy better than this.
I don't believe Metallica means what they're putting out there anymore. Haven't in a long time.

That's cool. It's awesome to see diversity depending on the individual. I personally am the opposite. I haven't liked anything Dave and Megadeth have done since Youthanasia. The last 3-4 Megadeth albums I really just can't listen to at all. Can't get into them.

This new song from Metallica is the best I have liked since the Load/Reload/Garage Days era. Just excited to hear the album. I have a feeling it's going to be very diverse, which is what I personally like. It's not all going to be full on fast like this single IMO.

those are the 2 songs I like the least on dystopia. They just sound weak compared to most of the other songs.....tis a good album though

True, we all have our different preferences. Megadeth has been hit and miss for me since Youthanasia, with System has Failed and Dystopia standing out as ones I can listen to. I'll still keep an optimistic ear out for the new Metallica. Who knows? Maybe I'll dig it.

Agreed, not my fav on the album either. I named them because they have a similar vibe as Hardwired, but think they're better in every way. I didn't realize until just now that Foreign Policy is a cover song from Fear, a hardcore punk band from the late 70s. lol No wonder it sounds more genuine punk...

that cut sounds like it could have been on AJFA although it has a bass line you can hear. lol

curious what the rest of the album sounds like. AJFA or a blend of other albums.

I'm guessing it will be a blend of various styles. I do not think the whole album will be as fast as this single. I think there will be more Black album tempo songs on this album.

With just the much better production over St. Anger and Death Magentic IMO this album will be their best in a long while.

I heard this song on the radio yesterday and thought about this thread. As I was listening to it, it occurred to me that the song has about everything most of us want to hear in Metallica: up tempo, old school thrash riffage and a Hammett solo with no wah. Even Hetfield seems to be trying to sing like he did back in the day without all the added vowel sounds he's been adding to the end of words for the past 15 years. It's still not good enough for most of us though. Lol! We're so picky.

wow
you guys are harsh
thats the best thing they have done since garage days and half of you are hating on it
whatever
sounds like good old metallica to me
what were you expecting at this point?
for them to reinvent thrash metal or define a new genre ?
these guys are pushing 60 for jesus fuck's sake
it only took 30 years
dang

Oh, come on... It's not horrible, but is it really anything special? Let's be honest here. This is the same band that have recorded countless, epic classics that have made people scream "fuck yeah!" with a fist in the air. Is this really one of them? I think not. It's alright I suppose, but let's not go overboard.

Agreed. It's not like I hate it, but its mediocre at best. It sounds like Death Magnetic material in a way which isn't a bash on that album mind you, I quite liked it. Not hating on the boys; it is what it is. Metallica was the first band I ever saw live and that was the Justice for All tour, and IMHO that was the climax of their ongoing portfolio. Do I hate them, no, but lets be honest there's a point where its gotta be hard for any artist be they musician, poet, film maker, painter, whatever that your greatest work will be behind you. Unless your Kreator, or Vader of course  Love there new shit! Don't know how they keep putting out such brutal music.

I like most metallica albums. DM was a great album for me, lots of well thought arrangements and melodies. Their first single from that album was "my apocalypse" which i didnt like and to me it is just a boring riff but trying to be fast and thrashy. They probably wanted to get attention of the fans with a thrashy song. To me the rest of the album was a positive surprise.

Now, for "hardwired", i think it is the same format. A simple riff and some speed. It is an average okay song but i prefer it instead of having no song at all. Watching the "making of", it feels like they wanted to rush a single and a video quickly before the release. They are like "where s kirk". It looks like they just got him there and rushed a solo just for the sake of it. For the rhythms it looks like they are using boogie and diezel on the video. So at least no axe fx.

Overall the song sounds like a blend of lords of summer and my apocalypse.

Considering that there will be 12 songs in total and 80 minutes of music, i am excited that the other songs will not be like this one for sure. Dont get me wrong, i love fast songs with good riffs but this one doesnt cut it for me. But i will still buy the album when it s out and enjoy it.

Peace \m/

I never heard any of the albums after Black. I listen to it once at a friends house a few days after it came out and knew it was over. Just a few random songs on the radio or wherever.
