One of these showed up locally at a reasonable price. The videos / clips sound pretty good and seems very flexible...Cool features. Any of you guys out there owned tried one? Get heavy enough for hard rock / metal? I'm interested. Thanks guys.

I've never tried one of their amps, but always wanted to. I get the feeling there's an alt account here whose interest will be piqued by the word "Metro" lol

I have never played one, but liked what I heard from the vids when it came out. If the right deal came along I would have to seriously consider it. I am a Marshall'y guy so, yeah.

I had one for a bit a few years ago. I liked it well enough, but didn’t completely fall in love. It captures the raw Marshall vibe well and certainly gets into high gain territory, but the channel switching is hard to use thanks to the shared EQ. And despite the gain, it still sounds very superlead-y. Moreso than like a Friedman IMO. That could be a plus! But if you wanted to be able to get more modern in the higher gain tones I think it will fall a bit short.

I do remember really liking the built in boost and finding the amp really did well with lower tuned guitars likely because like a super lead, it’s pretty bright to begin with.

Dig the heavy sounds but only a dirty clean available. I like it on half power/vriac on to sweeten the tone on the lower gain settings but can make the high gain channel a little dark. Still working on the perfect combo

I had one - i liked the Super-Plex over the DVL, the SP had more chew and grind. However I'd revisit it as long as I could return it if it sucked!

Thanks...so essentially it has plenty of gain...But in a traditional "Marshally" kind of character, not what one might describe as modern high gain?

Around 5:30 until the conclusion of this video really makes me want to reach for the wallet. This is how I always kinda wanted Friedman amps to sound...

Yeah, I think that video captures it pretty well, though you can imagine further boosting it out front. But it’s not going to all the sudden start really chugging. I don’t think that’s to the amp’s deficit really. If you go into it looks for a wide variety of “vintage Marshall flavors” in one amp it’s a great fit. As a channel switcher or “vintage to modern” I think I’d rather have the headfirst Alta or even maybe a Friedman.

The DVL1 roots in more of a classic sound with the ability to have more gain.

The Friedmans are a bit more modern and compressed.
Got it...Thanks. Less produced / polished sounding compared to the Friedman amps as well?

George’s amps sound polished in a cranked plexi high gain mentality but at any volume. They track great and aren’t stiff under the fingers. I think he told me that the 68 mode is the same as the metroplex? His metroplex could do high gain boosting the FET boost but it didn’t sound as good that way compared to a modded Marshall for high gain for example.
