I can get pretty Marshally on vintage mode orange channel. Or use clean and od pedals.

If it's for playing in a band, Dual Rec and it's not even vaguely close.

Modded Marshalls give you one good sound IF the mod is good (wait for the guys to run in telling us how it'll sound good if only you boost it with their favorite solid state box). The Mesa will give you three good sounds stock and straight in.

I would usually say modded Marshall all day long. I don’t like most DR recorded tones

BUT, I have been listening to Kings X Dogman lately and THAT Dual Rec tone is amazing!!
So I’ll go Dual Rec in honor of Mr Tabor today

You may potentially be left with a fire breather that can’t do any other tones well. MW is versatile as hell.

But I’m gunna be a douche and say stock 800 and boost and I can get any tone I need for a live show. I do love a MW though

Man that was a long time ago. Lately I’m using Waza sd1 with my 2203’s

You’ll dig it. Custom mode is great for retaining a bigger low end

I was a Marshall guy a lot of the 80's. I bought my first Mesa in 1981. The IIB.

Currently with the band I am usng a Tremoverb, Triple Rectifier or Mark IVa most of the time.

I bring Marshall amps to band practice and they sound great. I used one last night. But the truth is the Mesa amps just fit what I am doing now so much better.

It's hard to find anything that can get that great thump a Mark IV can only do.

The mid gain / harmonic switch on the IV when set to mid gain was the original Rectifier series prototype. It is the only amp that has that circuit.

I'm sure everyone is right about what works for them. For me it's the Mesa voice. The bottom is what it's about.
