More Friedman Jose...Metal?

My tone probably falls into this category of 80s-ish hair metal. But I can still get that with the BE50, so. Pretty much all the tones I want are in the 80s or early 90s.

Had one the day the came out and sold it. It’s a cool amp but not one I’d spend $4k on for metal tones unless it’s 80’s hair metal that you’re into.
+1 had one for a couple days. Cool amp but there are many better options for a metal amp at $4k.

Not that the Jose is a bad amp, it is not. It is a very vintage sounding high gain amplifier.

I may end up buying one down the road when prices drop, or buy a vintage Jose-inspired modded Marshall.

Probably many better choices out there for this style of tone...But the Jose still sounds great. Chunky and aggressive.

You live so close to his shop, you should just email him and make an appointment to try his amp room. I can almost guarantee, you'll like something. If I still lived in LA, I would have done this already.

Yeah...I should swing in there some time for sure. The two amps that seem most appealing to me are the Butterslax and the Jose. Would like to sample both.

Butterslax? That's interesting. I am also somewhat curious about how that one sounds, even though it's largely forgotten these days. My understanding is that the sat switch is always on, which for me is good because I use it a lot.

I would like to try the SS100, JEL50, Jose, Twin Sister and Slax. Maybe one of these days I can fly back into LA and set something up.

I decided enough was enough and I ordered one from SW. Should arrive by Friday or maybe earlier. This will give me a chance to compare it to my BE50 and see if it's more to my liking. At least I can stop obsessing about the Jose.

Ola’s riffage is horrendous. So shit I can’t watch any of his reviews seriously. Just play some well known riffs at this point dude.

It’s different than the BE50. Not better and not worse but just different. Way less gain that the 50

Way less gain huh? That will be interesting to experience. I didn't think my 50 had tons of gain as it is, but it has enough.

From my brief experience with it, if you use the additional gain stage it should have a healthy amount of gain. The gain type switch if I remember correctly was
Left….Pre stack master, diode on or off, couldn’t say.
Middle..Post PI Master, no diode
Right….Post PI master with diode. (Typical voLuke drop there)
Volume I and II are always working and you just blend in II for beef just like a regular plexi. More so if dialing lower to medium gain tones. They are internally linked.
The modern presence gives you a little more oomph as well (vs. vintage presence).

Can’t say I’m digging what I’m hearing at all in these vids, little too much of a “barking” kind of raspy grit that dosent sound very pleasing
