Moving on from the 5153.

yeah, my 5153 didn't last too long for me. When I A/B'ed it with my other amps, the gain structure sounded meh. I never regretted selling it

Anyone here move on from the 5153? Specifically the 50W? I have had the 50W head now since the early fall. I'm still not getting it dialed like I like at band volumes. Im thinking of moving on...I had a Carvin Legacy I for like 8 years and loved it, so I am thinking of replacing the 5153 with a Legacy III. A buddy of mine has a Quickrod that I think sounds fantastic, so I might consider one of those if money allows.

If you used to own a 5153, what did you move on to?

I did. I liked the amp but there was this mid-honk sound that I couldn't dial out of it properly. It did sound very good when loud. Mine had an unexplainable noise that would happen at certain intervals. Very strange. They had it in for repair but couldn't fix it and I was given a credit. I have had some crap luck with gear in the past year!

I moved then to a Kemper and enjoyed that but it was missing something live for me.

I am now in a Marshall JVM410HJS and couldn't be happier at this point. It's everything I ever wanted and more in a amp.

I had a 100w which I used in my cover band , I know exactly what you mean about the mid range honk, I could not dial it out. Channel 3 was just way too hot for me. I hated that amp more every time I played it.
Bought a Friedman "Marsha" (which I still own) now I play mostly an AxeFX II

I concur about the mid range "character" the EVH has. However, thats what I liked about it. It gives it almost a slight vocal quality. I think it can be classified as a "wierd mid", ala Splawn . Maybe not the same accented frequency as the Splawn though.

So I found the first Boogie I have ever liked. I borrowed my buddies Subway Rocket 1x10 combo. I love it and it sounds even better through my Marshall 4x12. Unfortunately I don't think it is going to hold its composure at band volumes.

I'll tell you, I really liked my Mesa F50 while I owned it. This can be had for about $500 all day.
