Yeah, JG is annoying to a degree, but he's been in the band longer than H has ;).

I honestly wouldn't care if he's there or not as long as he didn't butcher the few classic solos mr. Smith came up way back when...other than that, let the dude have fun, I'm sure I will every time I go see'em!

I was a huge Maiden fan growing up but I was done with them when I heard Holy Smoke. I thought, "Holy Shit, this sucks". I think Dickenson's voice has been shot since the late 80's. On Number and Peace Of Mind he was AWESOME. I still like up to Somewhere In Time even with their Gallien Krueger sound, after that..............egh. Still a great live act though.

Thats exactly when I bailed on Maiden as well. "Bring your daughter to the slaughter" was even worse

??? I think that JG has always been friends with the band since the 70s and when Adrian left it was an easy fix to slide him in. Saw them here in Wi at Rockfest a few years ago and they sounded great...but JG wasn't an original member. Steve Harris is. IF that's what you meant....

I loved the first few albums with DiAnno and then also Number and Piece with Dickinson. After that it was enough already with the galloping, swash buckling, pirate sword fighting tunes.

Or maybe I just couldn't take them anymore because our bass player thought he was Steve Harris and he ruined songs that did not call for that galloping bass line. :gethim:

I get tired of bands though. With AC/DC it was enough already after Back In Black. With Scorpions it was enough already after Blackout. With Queensryche it was enough already after Mindcrime. With Def Leppard it was High N Dry and by Pyromania I was out.

i agree with you dude
purity is where it's at

Will be seeing them next June in Germany along with Metallica, again. Will be a great festival year.

I love Maiden, one of my all time favorite bands. They're old stuff is best, but I like a lot of their new stuff I don't mind Janick at all, I like that he goes out there and is true to himself. I love the way he interacts with Eddie when he comes out on stage.

Love me some Maiden! Fave stuff is with Bruce but my fav. albums are pretty much all of them up until 7th Son. I have a soft spot for the Somewhere In Time album with it's epic/futuristic sound. Their latest was pretty damn good too. Bruce's solo albums in the 90's were among some of the best real metal albums to come out of the decade(accident of birth and chemical wedding), just awesome! Got to give it up for Maiden, to this day they're representing....all over the mufuckin' world!

Fucking love Maiden... A big thing when I was younger was playing along to live albums (I could make my way through the Motley Crue 1987 concert, KISS Alive 1 and 2, etc) but my favorite thing was take Live After Death, turn the channel all the way to the left so I just hear Adrian's guitars and play along as Davey... I sometimes still do it to this day, might get shakey in a few parts of the longer tracks like Mariner and Phantom but man, that's fun. Hearing the energy of the crowd from the recording and having your guitar not battling the recorded guitar but replacing one and meshing with the other...

Michi, who is "H"? :)

Sorry my bad :) I was referring to Adrian as in "Ade" which I've understood is pronounced very closely the same way as the letter "H" is in the London East End accent the guys speaketh... may be I'm wrong :D.

I reckon their guitar tones have got better over the years. Iron Maiden is still my favourite song wise, but the texture of the guitar tones isn't "crunchy" enough- they kind of stuffed up the cocked-wah method and made it sound too honky, in a way that squashes the crunch. But those songs from that album, right through to The Trooper kill live!

Even through a crappy recording uploaded and compressed to the moon, the tones roar!

I was at that Perth gig, but was about 150m from the stage. Was quite drunk by that stage of the day too, so it is good to see what I missed out on.

(Another late reply)- Well, you missed out on getting crushed by the moshpit. My bare foot was already trampled from the Slayer mosh pit earlier (learned my lesson- wear a pair of Steel Blues in the pit!), so during Iron Maiden one of my toes got squashed and a nail ripped off. It hurt like hell.

The sound was awesome though! Even still the memory of that big guitar sound is strong- it was such a full wall of sound, really crunchy, yet wet with a swirly modulation that didn't get warbly.

Love Maiden, I just ignore the onstage cheerleader
We have discussed this several times, its even odder this far out that he is still doing that onstage. It seems to go against Dave and Adrians time tested method of "let the song do the talking"
I'm sure they (Adrian/Dave) have discussed it at some point

totally agree with you on every one of the other bands you mentioned, although for me and maiden it was piece of mind last. does that make us crotchety old farts?

on a brighter note, my band is able to play a ton of maiden these days and the crowds love it. When I first moved to FL, I had to play Beatles and Stones because that was the age of the bar patronage at the time. Now it's becoming more and more folks that grew up on the same stuff I did so the heavier 80's stuff is becoming more appropriate (thank God).

Up The Irons!

Huge fan here. Definitely check out Dickinsons Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding if you havent yet. Just killer.
