NAD: Marshall Jubilee

Congrats!

They are killer amps. I gigged more with a Jubilee than any other amp the last 10 years I played out. Dime the output master, bring the lead master up to taste and you have a nice 2 ch amp. I also liked to leave the pull boost off as it sounded best to me. Loved any and all boost pedals, and GBs or 65s/75s as well.
Those reissue 2555x can also run any 2 pairs or quads of octal tubes you want to throw at it...2 6L6, 2 EL34...4 6550s....2 KT88, 2 EL34s...whatever you want. Pretty cool feature. Not many amps have that capability.

Congrats man, I really love the cleans and break up tones on these and the power section too.

Good stuff and cheers ^_^

Nice score. Congrats!!!
Never had the pleasure of playing a Jubilee myself, but I've always like the tones I've heard others get from them. Maybe it's time I get one for myself.

That amp doesn't deliver the goods until about "6" on the master w/o a loadbox.
Correct.....many noobs don't understand this, and walk away disappointed, if they only turned the output master past 6, their balls would be swinging.

Also, the beauty of the Jubilee is the fact that it has 3 controls that effect the output volume.

Depending how you run it, it can sound like a plexi, jcm 800, or modded 800. Plus has an awesome clean channel.

You can get great tones at low volume, but you need to learn the ways of the amp first.

Winning.

Have y'all compared a Jubilee without diodes engages to a JCM800 2210? Would that be in the same ballpark, or totally different?
2210 if it's an 86 or later will have more gain than a Jubilee. Like an already boosted 2203. Jubilee will be darker as well; although still a Marshall and not a dark amp just darker than your typical 2203/4. Jubilee will have a touch more clarity/articulation though, more 'chime' if you will. If you're a Marshall guy a Jube is different enough to add one to your collection IMO.

You can have it dark....make it sound ike a Mesa, or you can set it very bright and cutting ( like Slash's settings for the jube). The tone knobs actually work on this amp.

I’ve never owned a 2210, but in comparison to my ‘79 2203 the Jube was thicker, darker, smoother, and with lower mids. The tone controls are much more active and there’s much more available bass.
Jubes love to be boosted as long as diodes aren’t engaged.

This. At the end of the day, it's still an old Marshall, so it sounds best at 80's stage volume. I do run it into my loadbox at that level and it sounds great. You can hear the moment the power amp starts to distort, and that's the sweet spot. Set your gain at 6-7 and it's time to rock.

I still want to try out a 2210, every time one pops up on CL I force myself to ignore it.

Mark sent me this video the other day. It sounds raunchy. You should pick up one of these while you are flirting with marshall varients

The Jubilee is still a darker amp than any 2203/4/2205/10/1959/1987 I've owned. Like you said, it's not a dark amp per se, but compared to other Marshalls it seems to be. And yes, the tone controls are VERY active and work better than any other Marshall made. They can still be set bright and cutting and the low end can rival some Mesas.
I always dime my presence in 99% of my amps, with all the Jubilees I've had I also had to go to 5 or higher with my treble. Other Marshalls, my T rarely gets past 3. Jubilees also LOVE V30s too.
Great, great amps and over the years I must've had 10 or so...all this talk is making me want another.

Agree. For sure.

It gets darker and more compressed on the half power setting as well ( I always run it at 100 watt setting).

Slashes od setting below is extremely bright and cutting....like too much for my tastes:
