NAD: Marshall Jubilee

When and where do the diodes come into play with the Jube? I have a JCM 1H that has a boost button that I think kicks in some diodes and I love that sound.

I assumed it was only when you engaged the rythm clip function, but others have said the od circuit has diodes in it as well???

I just know I love the sounds it makes.

My understanding is that the diodes are only engaged when you pull the Rhythm Clip. Fun fact: it works on the lead channel, too (more subtilely), and adds a little grease under the fingers and a tiny bit more gain.

That all said, I think what people are referring to is that you cannot cut the diodes out of the circuit. Meaning: they're in there on every mode, even if they aren't "on" and there is no way to "turn them off" in a permanent sense. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

In the Jubilee series, the only mode that doesn't use diodes is the clean mode.
The overdrive channel includes two red LEDs and three 1N4007 diodes, and it's not possible to exclude them from the signal.

On the clean mode, you can activate the rhythm clip, which activates two more 1N4007 diodes at another point in the signal path for a light crunch.
This switch (rhythm clip), contrary to what many say, also affects the distortion channel, resulting in less bass and low-mids, less volume, and more compression.
Some people like it for harder rhythms.

So there's no such thing as diode-free distortion :dunno:

Hyvä korjaus, Eero! 🙏
