Then it gets really tough

I guess II and then I

Fair Warning has two standout songs and I just don't get its popularity...

no particular order: VHI, VHII, 1984....Fair Warning is really close (and maybe should be there instead of 1984 but that album had such an impact on me at my age when it was released)

my main complaint with the VH albums is the mixes really are lackluster. Really no low end at all.. But Ed's playing is what makes them so great.

Well its been 3 years since I replied so here is what I pick today

1984
5150
VH1

Good listening all around for sure.

I feel all the Roth era is top 3.
VH II
VH I

and

Diver Down

Little Guitars ,Big Bad Bill and The Full Bug are very strong arguments for DD.

Love EVH, never liked Roth. He just can't sing...at all. Even with that, VH I is in my top three. 5150 and unlawful round out the top. 1984 was my first exposure to them, but I just can't stand Roth. The funny thing is that lots of people here make fun of the pop music people who are all image and attitude but lack real musical talent.

Yeah, Roth was a dilemma in VH (though with Sammy they were a fucking totally gay band, right up there with Starship and Journey). But Dave's performance on the first and the second album are brilliant and could not have been more effective with anybody ells. Outta' Love is Roth's (and the bands) tour de force, it's just magnificent and uniquely VH all around. I think it was more Ted Templeman's guidance that pulled out those performances from the band more than anything. But for the most part, Roth ruined the band and made them pretty much un-watchable and un-listenable in a live setting past 1979. I wish the band had stayed more dark, angry and hardworking in their approach. Still, most think Fair Warning is dark, but I just can't stand that album anymore, its self indulgent and canned. I gave up on VH by 84, but still listen to their first two albums and that's it. There was too much cool stuff coming out around that time musically to waste time on fake crap (not hair metal stuff, incidentally).

I LOATHE everything about DLR, Hagar while a much better vocalist, like by 1000000 miles, I just don't like, something about him. Gary Cherone was my favorite but that was short lived. VH is just one of the many bands out there for me that was ruined by vocalists I didn't like.
