New Hetfield solo project!!

So uh.....the takeaway here is. If Jaymz runs out of riffs he has a career in voice over acting? "Coming to a theater near you, James Hetfield starring as Oliver Twist!"

Don't doubt it.

Til then, he's Grandpapa Het.

I liked his music MUCH better when he was a longhaired drunk, but am glad he's at a more peaceful place in life. Like Megadeth, they should consider an earlyish exit before it gets TOO bad.....which I can see on the horizon.....

Before my time, but I recall hearing about KISS lunchboxes being produced in the late '70s, reducing them to the level of a Burger King marking concept.

Your little white bread, bowl cut tike can take the dark, mysterious heavy metal band KISS to school.......in a metal box fixed with white bread. 🤡

I'm sure Lars would do the same if allowed....

Looked a lot like Little Billy Jo Armstrong there, Goth Lars. 😂 Do you memba all those makeup wearing glam metal bands you were mercilessly slagging....about 3 years earlier??! Here ~he is the Pensive Super Model.....
I rocked the kiss lunch box. Before that a bg’s one. Before that grape ape. I was cool af back then…

They’re waaaaaaay past that point.

I think he did this to cater to the aging demographic of his audience so that they could share with the young kids and grand kids to get them into Metallica. It's genius brand marketing, I remember in the 90's Pepsi and Coke got shit for putting vending machines and ads in elementary through high schools across the country.

On a side note I have been saying for the last 20 years I would love to see a Hetfield solo album or side project. You know like Maynard and Puscifer but Hetfield has this no "side projects" attitude. These recent albums Metallica has been putting out have been the same old recycled riffs and lyrics to me, nothing cool or ground breaking like in the past. As some 40+ adult with a diverse and changing taste in music I can only take so much "suicide and redemention" said over and over 50 different ways with the same over driven riffs.

The thing is that James has so much creative control in Metallica that it basically already is his side project.

I think what happened with the band is that James was responsible for most of the the meathead chugging and lightning speed of the band, and Cliff was responsible for basically every remotely complex or melodic thing the band ever did. The two guys worked great together. But after Cliff died, there was nobody to write interesting parts to counterbalance the chugs, and as a result music got pretty steadily dumber and less interesting as time went on, right up until all of Cliffs leftover ideas were used up.

I don't like saying it but I'd be shocked if Metallica ever does anything even remotely interesting ever again. I don't think they have anything left, except for writing more of the cringiest lyrics of all time. Invisible Kid my lifestyle determines my deathstyle yeeeaaaaahh

I agree with TGG.

I think James has had to deal with two huge handbrakes in the band for many, many years. Lars and Kirk's playing has slowed and degenerated significantly. James is the main driver of the band and he can only go at the speed of his two weakest links. Rob is a late hired gun tbh. Cliff's influence was unreplaceable. Jason was a burst of energy, but a trauma bonded member and always a fan first and never part of the inner sanctum of Metallica.

Lars is still the main business brains of the operation, but functionally they can only put out material that Lars and Kirk can cope with now.
It's way too late in the game to replace them and it would fundamentally change the band too much now. Why bother.

James might as well honour the original relationship and years those guys have put in and deal with it as best he can out of brotherly respect. He's old too and playing retirement is surely approaching, just not as fast as it is for Lars and Kirk it seems.

What's left to prove? They redefined the genre and left a legacy. Might as well just ride it out slow and steady into the sunset.

Cliff would have veto'd a lot of the CRAP that Metallica did in the '90s, or walked. And James wouldn't have wanted to lose Cliff, so I think he would have shoved apples in Lars's and Kirk's mouths when they started suggesting JUST A LITTLE EYE LINER WOULD BE OK......:poke:

I flush most of my solo projects though I have yet to produce a clogger as epic as St. Plunger

I’m certainly not one of the most influential world famous guitar players worth hundreds of millions, but my idea of riding off into the sunset would be a little different than what Metallica lol
