Godsmack...now there's another disasterpiece...

Every album is "ground breaking"...and it sounds EXACTLY like the last. So does Nickelback, but they don't claim otherwise. Godsmack is the most one-dimensional I can think of in recent years. If they come on, my radio goes off. I'd rather listen to NPR.

You can marginalize them forever but try and make a record sound that deep and huge and it gives you a new found respect for them. And it's not just Mutt Lange, trust me. Those guys know what the fuck they are doing. They are also seeing the world and making more bread and bangin more insane tail then anyone on this forum...lol

I can easily appreciate Nickelback.......

.....after listening to the Tragically Hip for any length of time. :bleh:

You Americans should be eternally gratefull that the music industry pushed Nickleback on you instead of "the Hip's" cliche, generic bar band indie drivel with an Elmer Fudd soundalike vocalist waxing ever so poetically about obscure Canadian trivia.

Compared to them, Nickleback rocks !

Musicians who hate other musicians.

But then you'd be just another musician hating another musician.

I may play the guitar, but I am no musician. LoL
That term gets thrown around way too easily.
I should have also wrote "When musicians hate other musicians."
I can't think of anyone I actually hate.

I won't say that they suck. They're pretty good at what they do. I just so happen to HATE what they do with a passion. Chad's "I can't get this giant shit to pass through my asshole" voice and cliched beyond belief lyrics feel like 60 grit sandpaper on my ears every time I bother to hit the FM button on the car stereo. Seriously... is this guy such a MASSIVE WHORE that he can't say "let's take a break" here and there? He and his music is like Walmart. It's everywhere and lots of people love it. But that doesn't make it quality. 20-30 years after their creation, I can listen to an old Journey or Boston song and still hear a timeless classic that has stood the test of time. Is that POS "Rock Star" tune of Nickelback's gonna hang like that? I can only hope NOT!
I respect your opinion but define "quality" music.

It's like if someone says there favorite color is blue and someone tells them thats not a "quality" color.

Quality is subjective.

Black is a far superior color than blue.

Bingo. Music can serve many purposes (emotional outlet, creativity, challenges, fun, or just entertainment going from point A to point B in your car). If the 'goal' is to create memorable, fun, pop rock music that resonates with the masses, then I'd say they have pretty high quality. What good is music with 4 time changes, brutal heavy tone, complex lyrics & melodies if you're trying to appeal to a wide audience? Nickelback excels in writing hit songs that are gobbled up by the masses, which in turn puts a LOT of money in their pockets. A LOT of people must really enjoy their songs as well, as evidenced by their concert attendance.

Most people who start a business want to see it grow and make money - this is all Nickelback is doing. So what if they aren't introspective loners who spend 20 hours a day practicing their modes and sweep picking -- maybe their just some dudes that are having fun playing music to packed amphitheaters and making a shitload of money?

Schon said the same of Journey. I did not like the radio friendly journey as much, hated ballads. I thought NS was a great player and liked the other projects. When he said straight out in an interview that his Journey music paid the bills, side projects were for less commercial self expression. That was honesty.

But this thread seems to be poking fun at haters.

Nickelback sucks, all the money out of the town they play in

I get the impression that most of the people who say they hate them just are following what's popular. It's 'cool' to hate them. . .you're not supposed to like them, etc.

Those people are sheep. If you like it, so what?

Are you supposed to ONLY like the color blue? Is red too commercialized?

Right now on VH1 they are playing Something to Believe In. I normally hate ballads. But that one has some depth in reality. Probably cuz Bret's headband in the vid goes from red to blue. We got some good blue headband tone in the vocals and some commercially viable stuff from the red.

I salute your ability to see deeply into the mysteries of life and the top 40.
