I am canadian.... and i hate Nickelback. I am sure that there are a zillion dudes in Tapout shirts with arm band tattoos that would disagree though..

That said, I give them credit for working with the formula despite being the laughing stock of the rest of the rock world. They hang with some pretty cool dudes in the music circle and I think they can live with the joke of being a joke because they make a shit load of money. Can't blame them for rocking out and having fun.... just can't stand the tunes.

I can't stand creed or nickleback and the thousand other shitty modern rock bands trying to cash in by sounding exactly like them ala seether etc. same shitty guitar tones , same shitty "trying to be tough guy or cool" lyrics. Every song sounds almost identical.

Guilty pleasure. Not a fave, but amazing production on the CDs, and a band that is still capable of writing a hook, even if you don't dig it. Mutt sure knows his stuff still!!

You can marginalize them forever but try and make a record sound that deep and huge and it gives you a new found respect for them. And it's not just Mutt Lange, trust me. Those guys know what the fuck they are doing. They are also seeing the world and making more bread and bangin more insane tail then anyone on this forum...lol

I will never understand why this rebuttal is used over and over again when it has zero bearing on someone liking or not liking something.

I happen to love "Animals" but thats about it. I dont hate or even dislike them, they just dont play a style that I really listen to...Theyre a non event for me..

Pretty sure the only place they are the laughing stock of are these guitar forums. After doing a few covers of them, I found out pretty quickly that the guys can write a pretty good guitar line. The can play and sing, there's no question about it. It's kind of funny to me that bitched about the 90's lyrics being depressing. Then these guys come out with song about doing fun things liek we all like to do. Like drinking and going to the titty bar. I mean what's not fun about that!! But then people bitch about that!! I just don't get it.

A cover band I played with learned a Nickelback song, when we played it live the audience booed through the whole song

When the band I was in played Nickleback the whole crowd sang every word, this was back in 2000-2003 and maybe everyone was sick and tired of them yet? :D

Musicians seem to dislike them, but regular normal people seem to like them, just look at their albums sales. Someone's buying their CD's.

But I wish they'd go hire another guitar player and put leads on their tracks.

I'm not kidding.
There is a stigma to Nickelback, it's like it's cool to hate them.

It could have partly been the bar I was at. A bunch of 20-30 years old's wanting to hear Katy Perry and gangsta beats.

They love and sing along to Journey and Bon Jovi...Nickelback not so much. :D

I won't say that they suck. They're pretty good at what they do. I just so happen to HATE what they do with a passion. Chad's "I can't get this giant shit to pass through my asshole" voice and cliched beyond belief lyrics feel like 60 grit sandpaper on my ears every time I bother to hit the FM button on the car stereo. Seriously... is this guy such a MASSIVE WHORE that he can't say "let's take a break" here and there? He and his music is like Walmart. It's everywhere and lots of people love it. But that doesn't make it quality. 20-30 years after their creation, I can listen to an old Journey or Boston song and still hear a timeless classic that has stood the test of time. Is that POS "Rock Star" tune of Nickelback's gonna hang like that? I can only hope NOT!

The thread was meant to be taken lightly, but just goes to show how some people, regardless of public opinion, can easily revert to a defensive posture and take some moral high ground on the other side of the fence.

does anyone know what was with their last album? as far as i can tell the music is of the same quality but it seemed to have not done even close to as well as its predecessor. it felt like the record label didnt push it as much. they still did, it was on end cap things in stores but it didnt get AS MUCH radio play, still plenty, but not as much. It also could have to do with the fact that the lead single wasnt a "love song". i dont know do you think the warner music group takeover of roadrunner had anything to do with it?

im just curious as im interested in the reasoning of the industry, what gets "pushed" and what doesnt. liek avril lavines last album, that didnt get pushed at all. again, music still close to the same quality as far as i can tell.

Of course they like Bon Jovi and Journey because the 80's were simply better. The new generation recognizes the 80's hits and the depressive 90's are being forgotten.

One of the things that got NIckelback was when they first broke out. I remember I had just moved back to the US after 9/11 and they were on the radio with something pop off their second album. Chad raised hell with the billboards and industry for shit sales on their first album. It got some airplay and a couple of songs off it were soon played on FM stations 24/7. I can't remember the month, but chances are, if you flipped through a few FM stations in Houston, TX, you were going to hear Nickelback, Linkin Park or Incubus.

I think that it depends where you are. My last band 2 years ago did loads of Journey and Bon Jovi and I think thats going to go over big with the ladies anywhere. Poison went over huge but we never really did anything else that was 80's besides Van Halen , Crue, Metaliica, Ozzy ,ACDC IIRC. Pearl Jam, STP and Alice in Chains went over big as well..

We did get a bunch of requests on a regular basis for Creed,Nickelback and Godsmack( another band that seems to garner alot of hate.)

Like I said, I think location plays a big role. Ive seen some guys here post their cover band's setlists and Im amazed because Playing Brookly, Queens, Long Island, 75% of that just wouldnt fly...

Oh, and by the way, we Canadians detest Nickelback as well. Well, at least we Canadian men do. The ironic thing about this thread is that Nickelback sounds WAY more American than Canadian!
+1 Didn't they just play at the Super bowl?
I mean ya can't get much more American than that

Truth... Bands like that just hold no interest for me but I dont hate them , I just dont pay them any mind. I dont really hate anything with rare exception and that would be Radiohead and Indie /alt fag rock like The Violent Femmes, Cake, Modest, Mouse, Ben Folds Five, Barenaked Ladies etc etc.... They actually do evoke a rather fervent dislike...
