overrated gear :D

I can say that the most overrated piece of gear I have actually owned is hands down the Diezel Herbert. Not saying it is a bad piece of gear because it's not, but definitely overrated.

This. And although I'll probably get flamed for it, I stand by that statement, especially considering the higher-end Gibson models. I've played a lot of Gibsons, and none of them (except maybe the Studios) are worth even close to their price. I think a lot of people buy them because of what a big name Gibson is in the world of guitars.

What about SG standards? I think those are some of the best guitars for the money.

In my opinion overrated = PRS :dunno:

I was talking more about the Les Pauls, especially any of them over $2000.

I've never actually played a Gibson SG, only Epiphones, and I prefered them to the 'Pauls.

See, I really like PRS guitars, they feel awesome to me.

any peice of gear gibson puts an artist name on or relics  why why why would you pay twice as much for that shit...did any one see the price difference on the clapton beano relic compared to the non aged
ill get flamed for this but ..the socal and san dimas i played at sam ash  they felt like crap to me..
just saying

I've come to like enough gear I used to dislike and come to dislike enough gear I used to like to realize that everything is relative, so I don't generally hate on gear simply because it isn't the right fit for my purposes.

However I do feel that the average boutique overdrive buyer needs to give his head a shake.

K100 speakers.

I use one to spit Skoal into.

Treble sucking

Lifeless

No cut

Thanks again Lolzgreg for bringing those things to that one fest

+1 for Orange amps. They sound great don't get me wrong but for the price point they don't offer much. Really should be more in the 1000-1500 range max.

+1 for all things Gibson. They just suck, except for that 1 out of 1000 that actually plays well but still not for that kind of money.

I love the Gibson overrated nonsense. Out of all of my guitars, my absolute favorites are my Gibsons. I got rid of my Tom Andersons, PRS, custom guitars, Hamers, and tons of others. I still have an Ibanez Jem signed by Vai and a custom Flame guitar, along with various Strats, but my Gibsons are simply my favorites. I have a 35th Anniv. Les Paul Custom, a '90 SG '62 Reissue Standard, a '92 SG Standard, and a 2003 (I think) ES 335. They are all insanely nice. They are all stock, with the exception of the LPC which has locking Grovers and a Suhr Aldrich in the bridge. I will never part with any of these guitars, unless my other option is being homeless...I think everyone has their own idea of what is overrated. To me, what Gibson puts out in the SG Standard range and some similar ranges...is pretty damn impressive. I would compare it to guitars that cost twice as much.

I would agree with this. The problem is that it is apparently much easier to complain about an entire brand than it is to be more specific about a particular model.

Big claim, mate... I'd be interested to hear the full story on this one ;)

This post should be called overpriced not overrated...something can be overrated and not highly priced...and killertone is a Diezel hater..

I always thought price was what made gear overrated, since tone and feel are all based on opinions. Its the stigma that people tend to think that if something is expensive it will sound better than something thats cheaper. Thats what I think about when someone asks if a certain piece of gear is over rated.

People overrate equipment.

Gibson KNOWS they can sell LPCs all day for $4000 so they do it. Don't blame them either.

Most of my gear has been pretty good to me as far as live use/road worthiness. If I had to choose something I own however, I'd say my Les Paul Studio. Sure it's not as expensive as a Standard or Custom, but ANY guitar over $800 should stay in tune without replacing the nut and tuners, which is what I had to do.

I've played $400 LTDs and Schecters that stay in tune perfectly so there really is no excuse.

That may be true but due to the high price point most people would expect it to play and feel a large amount better than say a LP studio when someone could easily go out and find they prefer a cheaper Gibson model, hence why i would consider something thats drastically more expensive than other similar pieces of gear to be over rated when in the end its all based on ones own opinions.

Most Mesa's. I can appreciate that they are hand-wired, but I hardly believe that makes them special.
