tone zone with 500k

evolution 1 with 250k

invader with 500k for the win though!

I wouldn't say the afwayu is warm
it's quite aggressive and edgy, like the nailbomb, maybe even a bit drier, but bassy as fuck

the miracle man is known for sounding great in maple guitars

I'll be the first to go out on a limb and recommend a few things not mentioned so far?

Dimarzio mo-joe or a Dimarzio crunch lab.

Think of the dimarzio CL as a spinoff JB but with more warmth and roundness. The moe-joe is a more powerful FRED which was a spinoff of the tonezone voiced by satriani. The moe-joe would work great in a bright guitar to help balance it out.

SD Distortion, Invader and Tone Zone all incoming. Will report back.

I like your style.

I installed the SD Distortion last night and I have to say it is very close to what I am looking for.
The TZ or Invader better be kick ass or the Distortion is going right back in.

I am finally reporting back after 7 years and 8-10 pickups. Finally found the right one. Suhr SSH+. It is perfect!

Holy Diver - safe and awesome - sound great
Black Dog - older school with throaty midrange, I love them with high-gain heads
Rebel Yells - like Duncan Distortions but with more color, overtones, detail...currently my fave pup for Lesters playing all styles of music. They can be super hot (like, too hot!!) down to rich and creamy - all with a few twists of the pup height screws. Amazing pups, like I said - take the DDs, everything you love about 'em, add a bunch of extra "breadth and usability, clarity, punch, juiciness of tone, etc." through refined evolution, and boom - ya gots the RebelYells

I've head they work well in a variety of fiddles - they're really amazingly versatile and truly mega huge sounding

IME, YMMV

For those not paying attention I'm bumping this post from the Original Poster Thread Starter

Also curious if you can somehow succinctly summarize the pups you tried. I have an Invader, SD and Custom Custom amongst others.

First off, this guitar is overly bright and it’s been 7 years. Lol.
Carvin Stock Pickups- never gave them a chance for obvious reasons.
DiMarzio AT-1 , SD and SD3 were all soulless very harsh and brittle to my ears.
SD Distortion - same but after putting that pickup in another guitar it may have been a defective pickup.
SD Pearly Gates- warmed things up a lot but lacked any bite. Not aggressive enough.
I can’t remember the rest other than nothing sounded good. Everything was either too bright or had no bite. I put the guitar in its case and forgot about it for years until for whatever reason I decided to give it another chance. I was on the verge of EMG’s when I found the Suhr. It is everything I was looking for. It is now one of my best sounding guitars and gets played regularly.
Moral of the story is, don’t order a custom shop guitar with a maple neck, hard rock maple wings and a maple top.

I did and it's the best guitar I have ever played...
it took me some time to find the right pickup though...

Curious what you ended up with?

I own a custom Skervesen that is an HSS 7-string. It has mostly maple neck (maybe 7 piece), thick maple top, basswood wings and a thick rosewood tone block on the rear. It’s really bright. It’s a case queen, but if I recall correctly I ended up with a BKP Alnico Warpig in the bridge and BKP Trilogy in the middle and neck.

I started with a lace deathbucker, then went to sd DD(damm you Lynch) then to a SD JB, then to SD THRASH FACTOR and ended up with a handmade overwound paf(10kohm 42 gauge).
