Pro's & con's of getting out of guitar playing / music gear.

I worked since 15 years old, retired earlier than I planned last year (I planned to retire this year, 2026). Played in gigging bands from 14 to 32. I've been buying/selling things for my hobbies / interests for as long as I remember.

Now I'm enjoying my time and hobbies: music, motorcycles, sports cars, boating, sailing, travel,... some things I'm considering and doing:

need to sell / donate / trade-in two old boats this year, I plan to get a new fishing boat to enjoy with my son when he's home from college.

Still on the fence about a sailboat vs travel; I'm going to Japan for a few weeks later this year, while my son's away at school; I have to decide which I want more: sailing vs travel; both take time, planning, effort and money...it's down to a choice as it would be tough to do both, and enjoy both fully.

Planning an extended 90-day (max tourist time in Japan w/o a visa) trip to rural Japan next year that will take me on a coastal tour, looking into options: driving requirements vs trains / buses, with a goal to give me flexibility to take my time exploring small towns, villages, cities, along the coast...I'll see what that's like...
...vs buying / maintaining the small CE Class B offshore / coastal cruising sailboat I want, that I can eventually take to the Bahamas.

If I find a place I like along the coast in Japan, I may spend more time there in the coming years vs getting a sailboat. Still gathering info and planning for both.

I also plan to sell more gear over the coming years; I enjoy my tube amps, but use my computer rig more than anything else, followed by my SY-1000...10 tube amps currently, I'd like to get that down to around 5-7; around 28 guitars, I'd like to get down to around 15-20.

I plan to enjoy everything as best I can for as long as I can.

Dude, this sound like an awesome retirement.
I'm still working at it and relatively on track, But I hope I can achieve a retirement similar to this when that time comes.

thanks it is great; wish I did in earlier in retrospect. obviously time working is time we'll never get back to enjoy.

oh no not politics, whats the world coming to. Next thing you know Border patrol will being murdering innocent US citizens where there are NO BORDERS.
Good thing there are 3 separate but EQUAL branches of Gov't to keep that from happening.
At least there were.
Did you just claim that Minnesota doesn't have a boarder? You wanna look at a map there buddy?
Now who would be responsible for exploting politcal "rot" in every facet of American life today Hmm ?
Democrats. They have done more to insight riots and create civil unrest that Trump did on January 6th. You even quoted their brainrot using words like "murderering innocent US citizens" or calling your president "orange". Democrats are using psychological operations tactics by using emotionally jarring words to describe normal occurrences and hoping their followers fall on the sword for them to regain political power. To me, the Mayor of Minneapolis sounds like Lord Farquaad in Shrek saying, “Some of you may die, but it’s a sacrifice I am willing to make.” They want the chaos.
Problem>Reaction>Solution.
You bought it, hook, line and sinker.
It's disgusting.

Dan I want your Randy Les Paul custom….not that I can afford it… dibs for the great danimal gearfest giveaway!!!!

dan travis the "mod" posted he was under "investigation" b/c his wifes father was murdered or some shit and your here "lecturing" me and "posting music" ?
Might wanna hire a Lawyer there chief & save your breath when you stand in front of the judge.
Pretty lame here today. Guess its time for a speaker swap & some solder.

Wow, that's low Dan, even for you :dunno:

Working my way backward. Why would DanT need a lawyer? And I don't think it was "murdered or some shit" as you called it. DanT posted links to news articles and such.

Can you answer why he needs a lawyer?

Can you answer my above question about what band asked you to join? You can't can you? That and you're 'typically' not logged in to have discussions with anyone about gear. Then, when threads don't go your way, you start posting the same old tired memes. Is that your attempt to get people to laugh along with you like the old days at HCAF? Pretty sick to bring someone's recently passed relative into one of your troll threads and then make weird insinuations and tell the person to mind their own business. :dunno:

WTF?
