I have worked many manual labor jobs where most/all of the guys were weed smokers. It didn't seem to have any measurable reflection on how good of an employee and co-worker they would make. Pills on the other hand, faghettaboutit.

All I will add is that pot smoking seems to have become more acceptable than cigarettes. I almost got kicked out of a ND football game for sneaking a couple hits off an E cig in a somewhat private area. Security was on me in seconds.

I've fired over 100 individuals in my working life regarding weed smokers. Yes, and plenty of pill poppers.

Very few have it under control enough...the majority don't but they believe they do. Impairment is impairment regardless of what you take.

Yeah, I remember 2 guys with very good jobs where I worked that lost those jobs: in spite of 2 previous warnings (3rd is termination) and knowing surveillance cameras were everywhere, they were burning one in their car at breaktime...busted and fired.
Personally the very few times I had to work while buzzed, I hated it. Just difficult to function.

My bro was managing a granite shop and the owners wanted to save on insurance by drug testing all the employees. He told them they wouldn't have any employees anymore so they decided against it. All granite installers smoke weed.

I refuse to take a low paying gig if I have to piss in a cup. It's the principle. Don't tell me I cant rent chairs or scrub plates without a piss test but I can run a nation without doing so. Pilots, jobs where people could be killed, yeah I get it. Hauling trash cans? Who gives a shit?

We had a policy of no impairment regardless of who you were. You get paid to do a job and the expectation is you delivered that job un-impaired and not disrupt others in any way.

The only way to control it is to fire people so others can see what happens so they don't. If they did, they too got fired.

I like and support the rule. What people do away from work is none of my business, however, if it effects their performance for a job we pay them to do then it is our business and we fired them.

Can't be any more clear AND fair about it.

Me n the guys based it on work performance and no one cared if you smoked but you better share with the guys in need if you were gonna bust out a fatty in the hut after setting up. Slackers and shitheads weren't included in that policy.
